well, I will be making two sets of motor mounts. Always easier to do two as two takes 1/4 of the time if you're already set up for it.

I could also have a spare ECM flashed and make a harness for you, but this swap is only going to work on an 02 or 03 with 45RFE and JTEC

Short update with some teaser pics

engine/trans in, trans mounted. Need to think about motor mounts. But mocking up I can see what will and will not fit.

The intake manifold on this one is not one that I will be using. I have the appropriate jeep one along with computer etc. from an 02 jeep grand cherokee. This motor still needs the tone rings swapped on the crank, and cleaned up, but I want the mounts and exhaust done before I ever get to that point, so that it's purely a mechanical issue and electrical to finish.

Motor in with trans bolted up. pan is on a 2x4 wood block between axle and oil pan to hold it in position without the hoist.

driver side motor mount. I'm thinking that the grand cherokee motor mounts should work out for me.

The heater hoses will need to be stretched, in the middle, so that the reservoir and heater core can be hooked up and look proper.

here is your fan hub clearance. You can NOT use a factory e-fan. I will have to cut the e-fan out of the e-fan only fan shroud, and install one directly on the radiator, with a pusher on the other side. The fan shroud itself will then fit in order to duct air efficiently

Power steering gets a little tight but the hoses will all reach and fit with plenty of flex. There's actually too much hose to the U and the cooler, but no big deal

Here's how it sits with the v8 in it. Obviously it will drop a bit more with full fluids, driveshaft, exhaust, everything else assembled. I'll be wanting diesel springs, but it didn't drop the height by too much

This is where it will sit for a week or so while I finish up the engine replacement on the black 02.

Looks great!

It seemed that the biggest fitment issue would be the motor mounts - wondering where they are located on the 4.7 relative to the 3.7. Looks like you have a solution.

Awesome. I was looking at doing this swap (still might), but since down the road I intend to swap a 392 in to my Ram, I started thinking about possibly swapping the stock hemi out of it into the Liberty.

Awesome. I was looking at doing this swap (still might), but since down the road I intend to swap a 392 in to my Ram, I started thinking about possibly swapping the stock hemi out of it into the Liberty.

this swap will only work with an 02 or with one that came with a 45RFE...and has the same computer system as the 16 tooth 4.7. you're looking for a world of hurt.


also, why on earth are you even going to try to swap a 392 in for a hemi....even if it's new gen, the hemi is gonna be more powerful with less chance of breaking

The drivetrain is exactly what came with the 4.7l wj's. the 45RFE is the same strength as a 545RFE and is internally almost identical...it won't break. 242 won't break, and the 29 spline 8.25 is about as strong as a d44, so it will take it. had a 270hp 4.6 stroker in front of an aw4 and an ax15 with 242 and d44 as well as with an 8.25, never had an issue.

as always, the dana 30 is the weak point. it will be fine as a DD

don't swap a solid dana 30 into anything it didn't come in. it's still going to break.

I would do my SFA swap all over again without thinking twice and for the type of wheeling and area there was just so much you could do with IFS and no I would never own a Wrangler,they ride like a$$.

Ummm....yeah, the 392 IS a hemi, it's the one they put in the new Challengers, Chargers and 300's...:emotions34:

Considering I'd be swapping engine and trans along with computers (providing it would actually fit), it's PCI to PCI. It can be made to work. Only a ****** would try to use the 3.7 PCM to control a 5.7

If your planing on a HEMI swap you will need to do a SFA swap or be forever stuck as a 2wd KJ.No room for the front diff and oil pan,even if using the Grand Cherokee oil pan.
