Does anyone here know the max size and or the optimum size tires one can run on a KJ with a 3 inch lift? Additionally, any advice on a brand....Keeping in mind that any offroading I do in this area will be in soft silky STICKY quicksand mud or dry sand and this is also my daily driver? Im definitely wanting self cleaning tread, and am thinking on maybe super swampers. Additionally, I want bigger tires with more clearance...but how big can you go before putting undue stress on the drivetrain?

245's ... without a regear

265's with

As for tire brands ... you will get a lot of different answers. Personally I researched sites like Tire Rack.

Good Luck

Edit: I should add ... those tire recommendations are not definitive. Some have stuffed 265's without re-gearing, I just couldn't imagine DD'ing it like that.

How much, on average does a regear cost?
1200-1500 depends on location and cost per hours etc
front diff has to come clear out to swap the gears of course
also some advertised 3 inch kits will never allow enough room to run 265-75s so something else to think of

Easily removable ?? They all mount the same Renegades have fake bolts is all and no it will not give you any more room really.
To run larger tires, more lift and lower gears

I appreciate the help, and I have a tentative answer of 245 max for width. What would be the maximum aspect ratio? Over all size expressed in inches?

I have never removed mine, but I assumed they were quick disconnects based on the bolts, which are apparently fraudulent LOL

Generally, just shy of 31 inches. 245 75 16 being the least trouble and most popular.

265 70 16 is same diameter, more weight, a hair taller with less tire choice and some more potential rubbing.

31 10.5 15 same story plus rims.
all require legitimate lifts to fit.

there is also a tire section here.

I am looking at 2 inch hub spacers from rocky road or something equivilant, will that buy me a little more wiggle room as far as width?

1.25" worked the best for me .. eliminated sway bar rub and required only minor trimming and heat gun work. Not sure what 2" would get you.

I have zero sway bar rub. Which is strange. Mine only rubs near the fog light doors. Must be time for an Arb....

IF you think you have to have spacers then go for a good product like Spidertrax, NOT RRO
I'm running 32 inch tires with wheels that have 5 inches of backspacing with no issues hitting the sway bar etc

I'm running 265/75R16's with just the OME and clevis lift. I still haven't done the top plates, but it's on the project list.

I get rubbing at full lock on the swaybar and just a bit of the plastic trim inside the rear of the fender well. I still haven't trimmed the pinch weld cover, and it's still there and in place... :)

I'd argue you can run 265's on stock gears with little to no issues, as long as you're lifted. You can notice a loss of power, but let's be serious....it's not like you went from driving a Ferrari to a Toyota Yaris. It's more like you went from driving a V8 to a V6, in the same vehicle. To hear the stories on here...you'd think I have the only Jeep Liberty in the WHOLE world that can run 265's without re-gearing...

Rims are the biggest issue, as backspacing is what will allow you to run bigger tires with little to no issue. I just have the stock 16x7 rims that come in the Sport package. I'd like something with a bit less backspacing just for the stance, but then you run into issues rubbing the fenderwell or swaybar.

Keep laughing...we all know you're the only one with an opinion that counts on here.

At least I'm advocating for alternative solutions, while you all just bash dissenting opinions.

Oh but that's right, you're the only one who really knows how to work on a Liberty. The rest of us are just hacks who best ought not quit our day jobs.

If something else works then I am all for it
BUT the fact remains that running larger tires with stock gearing not only uses more fuel, runs hotter, harder on the transmission / engine etc.
Common sense, the factory chose 3.73 gears and 29 inch tall tires for a reason, returning the gearing to something close to the factory setup is the best you can have all around
Why would you not want to do it?
