Repainting Textured Plastic Exterior Parts / Flaking Wheels

My exterior plastic is looking pretty sad and faded and I'd like to paint them black instead of grey. Has anybody ever used Dupli-Color® Flexible Bumper Coating?

Just wondering if this is the right product for this type of project and would like to see the results if anyone has ever used it. I'd been reading about the bed-liner but I don't think its necessary as I don't do any off-roading.

I'm also thinking about using this Dupli-Color® Shadow™ Chrome Black-Out Coating because my wheels are doing that silver-paint-peel thing that liberties seem prone to. So any experiences with this would be appreciated as well.

Make sure you wipe all your plastics with prepsall. Takes off all oils and wax for painting.

Looks like that product is for painting over existing chrome.

Dupli-color Shadow is designed for polished metal or chrome. Not sure how it will work on KJ steelies, unless you polish them before painting.

I used DupliColor Graphite on my steel wheels almost 2 years ago and to be honest I'm not greatly impressed by the durability of the finish. They looked great at first but it didn't take long before the wheels started to show chips from off tarmac adventures, and is now even starting to flake and rust around the lug holes, rim, and inside the cutouts.
I think the Duplicolor is designed more for cars and street wheels, and not made for the hard knocks of Jeeping.

If i did it again I would just powdercoat them....which may happen this summer anyway.

Whatever you decide, just remember the three most important steps of painting.
1. Prep

3. Prep

so i could hit the wheels with duplicolor silver then the shadow to achieve the look. I like the black but i dont like the flat or matte black, i want it to shine lol

I plastidipped mine and they turned out great. For the flares I used duplicolor bed armor...but I'm not very fond of it

they did turn out nice. i wish i had the same wheels as you but i have the other style.

Bedarmor is trash, the kevlar gives no protection and is only in there for the texture

I used the Graphite color on mine, which I thikn is gonna get the color you are after. The photos make it look darker than it is, it is actually a dark grey with silver flake.

idk, ive gotta do something because they look like garbage

Sand and paint with Rustoleum wheel paint. Mine have been A-OK for 3 years.

FYI Checking in here. the Duplicolor Flexible Bumper Coating works great on the fenders/bumpers/trim. not sure how it would hold up if you go off roading but for street use it worked perfectly

used their brand of prep spray and adhesion promoter with the bumper coating.
