If any other people have been having this issue, a TSB was just published yesterday that extends the warranty on the gas tank for the life of the Jeep. It might take a while to show up in the warranty system, so it may be a few weeks still before you can schedule an appointment. Since they have to replace the tank, if you're really nice, you might be able to talk them into swapping a skid plate that you bring with the standard bracket.

Sure hope this is correct and they will take care of my 08. My Liberty has been burping gas since it was new. Had taken it in when new... service manager told me to not try and top off and park on level ground when filling :( Didn't have the TSB out back then and I was out of warranty (miles) by the time it did come out.

I hope this extended warranty also applies to the 2nd+ owners and not just the original purchaser.

If this was on a repair order before warranty expired it should still be covered after it expired.
What I don't get is TSB is/are not a warranty, just how to repair common problems under warranty.
So tank over flows are warranty unlimited age/ mileage now?

I had looked through the repair orders that I saved and couldn't find it (didn't save all the ROs). The dealership that I bought from lost Jeep when Chrystler did the bankruptsy thing and the new dealer in town didn't seem to be to motivated to search and find the old repair order when the TSB did come out. Oh well, now maybe it will get fixed.

It's not a TSB per se, but it was published with other ones. I don't know what the right term would be but it is listed as "X46 lifetime warranty extension"

If anyone can get their hands on the text of the TSB/warranty extension, please post it up so we can see what Chrysler will do for us. TSB's seem to only be helpful at the dealer when you can bring the text of it with you and show them what it says.

I guess it doesn't matter what it's called as long as we're covered.

My gas tank burped fuel about 2 weeks ago, and I have a feeling this issue will become more of a pain in the future.

Well I called and got an appointment to take my 08 in on the 19th for the fuel spillover. It has 94k miles on it and has burped fuel since it was new. Sure would be great if they fix it for free. :)

I'd like to confirm that I had my tank replaced completely free.

Canada - 2008 Liberty (Not the original owner)

After going through issues with one dealer screwing me around, I went to a different dealer. After they diagnosed the issue it was covered. I do not have any Jeep official warranty.

And no more burping fuel. Except I still have the GASCAP error on the odometer. :(

Got my tank fixed yesterday (got the letter today.) The work order says they removed the tank, changed the check valve, and replaced the tank.

After I picked it up from the dealer, I headed to the gas station to fill it up... what a pain. To start I could piss more that the gas the Liberty was taking. Finally pulled the nozzle out some and it was taking gas faster, but not fast enough to lock the nozzle handle with the little spring thingy.

Plan to give it another fillup and talk with the service department if things don't go better.

I am not the original owner of my 08 KK but I did receive a letter from Chrysler notifying me of the extension along with a reimbursement form to submit if I had already paid for the repair. Mine started "spewing" a few months back and I remembered the original thread about the TSB. Can make for an embarrassing moment at the pump. I'll be scheduling mine soon.

Forgot to mention that. It covers all just like a recall.

Well, ran the gas down to a 1/4 tank. Went to a differant station to fill it up... was able to fill the Liberty at full speed. Nozzle cut off the gas when the tank was full, with no spitback. Guess I'll call it fixed :)
