Heard the factory LSD known as the Trac-Loc called the trash lock a lot around the forum but I never stopped to ask why. So, why does everyone call it the trash lock? What's so bad about it that makes it trash?

I understand that it's a LSD and not a locker, I was just curious if that was the only reason for the dislike or if there were function or integrity issues with it. I'm considering putting one in my 2WD KJ just for a little added peace of mind. Don't really want the poor road manners of a locker as I will mostly be driving on the road. Just wanting something to enhance the AT tires when pulling my trailer out of the wet/and lately muddy yard, and getting in and out of the muddy drive at the saddle shop I work at. Plus a couple of places I fish and hunt at have dirt (or mud when it rains) roads so I want a little more assurance I won't be calling for back up.

The clutch packs wear out at around 75-100k, so once that happens it's an open diff.

Hoosier, I've got 91,300 on the KJ now, so the LSD will be wearing out the same time the KJ will. Any other suggestions that fit a tigh budget?

You mean Rubicon?

And that answer is no,they come with lockers, depending on year it's either a junk air locker or a electric locker.

No I meant the Moab. On the jeep site it has the Rubi listed with Tru-lok and the Moab with Trac-lok. I was under the impression that the Tru was better than the Trac?:wtf2:

Nothing wrong with the Trac Loc if you change the oil when required...with the correct oil...and put in the correct amount of Mopar friction modifier additive.

What is the general consensus on the powertrax no-slip? I've heard it functions like a locker but drives like a LSD. How are its road manners? Does it handle throttle through the corners well or will it just eat up the tires?

Powertrax NoSlip is what ThunderbirdJunkie has in his Jeep. It's nearly transparent in operation.

Sorry for the ****** reply earlier, rough night. Does it require any special additives, servicing? Do tires last pretty much the same as before? How does it perform in snow, sand, mud, etc.? Would you recommend for someone who spends most of the time on the road?

huh. I have 267,684 miles on my 99 cherokee. only had the rear diff fluid changed once, never been serviced (I'm second owner and have all paperwork/know first owner).

The Trac-Loc Works like new.

It's awesome. Will get more detailed later, but it sounds like exactly what you want.
