Looking to buy a low mileage 2011-2012 Liberty to take to camp Jeep, Jeep Jambos, and maybe Rubicon and Moab. I live in central ILL and will be traveling quite a distance to participate in these activities which is the reason I've narrowed my search down to the Liberty. The Grand is TOO pricey, the Patriot is not robust enough and the Wrangler would be too tiring to drive that far an only seats four. Now which 4wd do I want and how do I tell which they Liberty has by just looking at it. I found an Arctic that I LOVE ,but the only one I've found is in Lincoln Ne and that is a 7hr + drive from here in the middle of winter. I have a car to trade in so I can't just buy it and have it shipped. I need to have it purchased by Jan 3 to drive to Fl on vacation.

HELP!

There are two transfer cases for the KK. Command-Trac 2 and Selec-Trac 2. Command-Trac 2 has 4Hi N 4Lo and Selec-Trac 2 has AWD N 4Lo. The Command-Trac 2 is the one you want. The AWD option of Selec-Trac 2 isn't suitable for off roading IMO.

On the window sticker it should say what T-case is included.
If not, on the center console the Command-Trac 2 would have 4WD Lock as an option on the t-case control and the Selec-Trac 2 would have 4WD Auto in place of the 4WD lock. Anyone with a KK please correct me if I'm wrong. It's been a few years since I sat in one.

Hopefully this helps!.

EDIT Check this out too. May correct any errors in my statement and give you an in site on how both 4x4 systems work.

They don't have a HD ver of command trac like original renegades did?

Btw I forgot about the kk renegades. Don't see them around much.

No HD Transfer case, but as far as standard KK Offroad hardware, it's right there in the Renegade. Just needs lift and tires.

One heck of a lift and tires, and probably regearing and lockers if you're going to even attempt the Rubicon trail. Camp Jeep and MOAB should be fun though, even stock or with minor mods.

I bet you could fit three in the back seat of a JK unlimited..However a KK would be nicer for on road duties with traveling. I have never ran the rubicon but I'm guessing you might come out of it with a little bit of body damage.
