Hi all,

How does everyone secure their spare tire/wheel...wheel locks? Looking for some feedback, what to buy/where/how effective etc...

Thx!

wheel locks, but like like every other person on the planet I keep the key in the glove box.

Just like regular lug nuts if somebody wants it bad enough nothing will keep it on there.

Agreed.

With wheel locks.. $4 Stripped lug nut remover socket from harbor freight and the wheel locks come right off.

I've seen people chain the tire to the mount by looping it through them both. If you have tire cover that's not a bad option since no one will see it but still, only a deterrent.

When I got mine, the spare tire was secured with a very strong metal cable to the spare mount. It's a chance the original owner gave the key with the car key to the place he sold it. Personally I removed it since it's not a problem over here. Lock nut are also probably the best way to do it.

Since I don't lock the four in use tires....that have good tread, I don't think I need to lock the spare that has 5/32" tread left

5 pack of McGards may be hard to find.
napa, autosence, ctc all only had 4 packs.
Ended up getting mine from dealer, they keep them in stock for any new wranglers they get in.

Good luck

I have the spare with 3 McGards on it. At best it will only slow someone down from taking it.

The locks are a PIA really. I am not using any on the 4 wheels on the ground and when I do the 5 tire rotation the spare is a pain and I might just go back to the regular lugs next time.

My spare has its own wheel lock...and the 4 tires have their own.
