I've read several articles about Wranglers getting lengthed wheelbases to increase off road performance.
I figure stretching a KJ's wheel base 12 inches would be good*.
A JK Unlimited's wheelbase is: 116" (2900mm.) Adding 12" to a KJ's would give you 116.4" (2956.56mm.)
Or slice up a KJ and stuff it on an Unlimited frame.
*Stretching the body work is the real reason for this mod, for increasing the interior rear seat areas length. Lengthen the rear side glass or build recessed cargo areas where the rear side 1/4 lights normally are.
Then fit a full pop up hardtop tent to it like what the new Unlimited's are sporting.
Kit out the interior for two people with bedding above in the pop top, small kitchen/Hob, and a reclining seat.

Damn, Ry, always thinking aren't you? :party52:

I like the idea - as the old commercial said for men's slacks: Just a skoshe more room...

I really wish my KJ had about 6" more of rear seat room, and a good 6"-12" more of cargo space

Yeah but when you "stretch" a TJ
You move the front axle forward a little and the rear
axle ,well, backward a little
nothing changes on the inside
You can stretch any thing

Also remember this
Longer wheel base = crappy brake over angle
My TJ on 33's has a better brake over than a JKU
with 4" of lift and 37's
Granted I did mod it to be this way but....
I doubt you are planning to stretch it and run 37's

First thing that comes to mind when you start talking about major conversions to jeeps:

Ya, but I like being different!
JK's are cool and all and we'd love to have an Unlimited Rubicon, but owning a KJ
and totally modding it out is more fun!

Now while I agree with you
An LJ Rubicon is my "dream"
I would trade my TJ as is with only 51k
For the LJ Rubicon stock with 100k
And I would throw in some cash
Problem is most people with an LJ don't want a TJ

That's what, a long wheelbase version?
Pardon my ignorance but I am not too familiar with all the Jeep models yet.

Funny, you mention the LJ. I am shopping for one now and will purchase it next summer. I can pick one up for under $20k with some where around 35,000 miles. I like the libby, but I am looking to get back to a solid frame and solid axles.
