Took an '06 Liberty CRD out for a test drive yesterday. Tried all the transfer case modes. 2WD, Part Time, Full Time all worked as they should.
4Lo had a major issue. I got it into and out of 4lo with no difficulty but when in 4lo, it was extremely lurchy. I lightly pressed the accelerator and it waited until the count of 2 then it seriously lurched forward (knocking my foot off the accelerator). I tried again, same thing, but this time I kept the accelerator down and it seemed to be somewhat okay driving (ran out of straight line room, had to get out of 4lo before turning on dry pavement). This has never happened in my '04 3.7L. Is this a worry? Can anyone offer a possible explanation? Or does the 2.8L torque hit that hard in 4lo?

This is the only Liberty CRD I can find within a reasonable drive (up to 3 hours one way), otherwise I'd pass on it. The only other one sold a day before I got to it (it was my #1 choice but I missed it).

Sounds normal. Especially considering the CRD low end torque.

Yeah, the CRD has a lot more torque than the 3.7L to begin with....

Everything is lurchy in low range. Have you ever driven a real 4wd before?

No, just my '04 3.7L KJ! :)
Thought I'd try the CRD for sh*ts and giggles :)
Just busting yer balls for not reading my entire post :)
No harm meant :)

IF you were suggesting that the 3.7L KJ is NOT a "real 4WD", well you just made a lot of enemies here :)

Sounds normal as the turbo will spool faster in 4low(increased engine rpm's).

I'll quote tjkj2002 but it goes for all you guys.
Thanks... you still have the answers I need when I overlook the obvious. I totally overlooked the idea of turbo spool. Guess that's because I've never owned a turbo. Only driven a turbo once... WRX STi once for 15min, and I was more impressed with it not stalling in 6th gear at 30mph than I was with flooring 1st and 2nd which, looking back on it, I totally should have done... oh well opportunity missed.

Lol...no, ThunderbirdJunkie was stating the opposite. He was saying the OP had not owned a real 4x4 therefore he was unfamiliar with the phenomenon.
