got some renegade side bars, and skid plates recently, i was wondering if anyone has instructions for mounting the side bars. i have not looked close at what it takes to mount them or the hardware.
maybe someone can snap some pictures of how theirs mount?

Don't bother unless you're doing this strictly for looks.

Why?

The Renegade bars are solely for appearance. They're actually rated for LESS load capacity than the regular roof side rails.

If you're talking about the side steps I have the brackets, bolts and the steps. Don't expect the side steps to protect the rocker panels off-road as they're really just for looks and for kids to step on to get in the Jeep.

To attach them use the brackets that come with the steps and bolt to the frame rail - there are 2 bolts per bracket. Nutzerts are in the frame rail to accept the bolts.

If you need the brackets & bolts send me a PM and we'll work out a deal. My wife would like me to clear some of the Jeep stuff out of the garage :disgust:

I have the stock rails on my Renegade and as the guys said above, they're pretty much just for looks.
Better than nothing, but mine are dented to hell (edit: AND the supports are bent) from just a couple of rocky trails. I plan on upgrading mine as soon as I can afford it.

The skids have fared pretty well though

They are not useless. Not the best but I have beat the hell outta mine (and bent them a bit) but they have saved my doors jambs a few times...that seems like the opposite of useless to me.

They are useless
One trip and they will be ready to take back off
Not worth the effort to install really

See bolded type for what is meant by "useless".

Once bent, they lose whatever strength they had previously, which wasn't much.

Again, appearance only.

I think "useless" is a bit harsh. I'm glad I have mine - they definitely saved some body damage.
BUT... I wouldn't recommend them to someone for use as permanent "rock sliders". The stock sliders are WEAK and will only withstand a few knocks, before damage is transferred to the body.

Like I said, I'm upgrading mine as soon as I can afford it

can anyone post measurements for where the brackets go on the frame? my 2002 KJ does not have holes pre drilled for them, so rather than just guess if anyone can post some pictures/measurements that would be great.
i am going to try to find self threading bolts.

kind of,
but my 2002 is not pre-drilled for the holes.
i will just eye ball it and then measure to get both sides the same (or close to...)

Are you SURE here are no holes in the frame? Especially in the early years of the Libby the engineers at Chrysler put electrical and mechanical basics in all Libby's made even if a particular Jeep didn't come with the option - for instance all early Libby's (maybe even later years) came with the temp sensor wire harness in place for ambient air read outs in the EVIC even if the truck didn't have the EVIC option chosen on the order sheet.

For the side rails Jeep would have stamped the frame rails for the NutZerts for the rails - cuz to have to drill the holes on the assembly line only for those Libby's with the option would have been counterproductive.

So double check - you may have the holes but no NutZerts pressed in. Even the directions linked above show and assume the holes are there.
