2006 libby renegade. I live in Pittsburgh pa, so not a great amount of snow, can get some storms with 4-6 inches at a time, and a lot of ice storms. I also drive early in the morning, so its generally before the salt trucks come out.

So basically im looking for something good in snow, ice, AND that wont wear away after a spring/summer of dry pavement. Not really an offroader so that's not an issue.

i was looking at blizzak dmv-1's but all reviews ive read say they wear fast on dry pavement.

so any suggestions on some good shoes, stock 06 libby, 225/75/16

Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor. Excellent on snow, ice, rain, and if you ever do find yourself wanting to go off road, they do great there, too.

There fixed it for ya ha ha

Yes the tires that are just for snow are prone to wear out very fast.
Any good all season will more than likely do a good job for you since you won't be off road much if any
Just up and down all of those dang hills around P-burgh :whip:

The Blizzak is tuned for cold climate they do were very fast on pavement during summer, Revo2 is a good option and General AT2. I like BFG AT and Rugged trail also. I've ran them all and all work well.

Firestone Destination A/T

or

Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2

Those are one of the two tires I'm going with next. I love my Duratracs but uh... they are too ******** for daily driving.

I'd say if you're not off-roading and need a bit of traction, these treads are probably your best bet. I use these:

Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

And I love the hell out of them. bout 500 miles on them so far...

i had those same blizzaks on my ram. theyre great in the snow. not good for summer. rather than look at winter rubber maybe theres a decent all weather one out there? better summer wear but still performs for a season or two in the winter.

seriously though, the blizzaks, awesome. i suggest them in the winter and proper summer tired.

as long as the rubber isnt too hard, you should be able to get away with any good M+S rated rubber. i had decent luck with my falken ziex when i was forced to drive them in the snow

I'm running the Firestone ATs and really like them. I do go offroad with them but they behave very well on side streets, open highway, not loud at all, good traction in the wet. Haven't had them in snow yet but if their mud performance is any indication they'll do well. And they look good too :party52:

Any one I listed will do well in snow. the Liberty was like a mountain goat in 6 inches of snow and ice with the General AT3 up and down hill. Usually a MT tire isn't going to do well in the snow. usually you want a hard rubber tire also. the Blizzak is very hard in cold, but way to soft with any hotter temp.

I had Blizzak's on my RAM, they performed pretty good in icy conditions but not so good in the deep snow. And they are pure winter tires so don't expect good performance 3 other sesons :(. Now I have Silent Armors on my KJ and they are brilliant at deep snow but not so good in icy conditions :). So if you do a lot of mileage then follow Ry&Jen's advice and buy dedicated winter tires but if your mileage is under 30K (kilometers I mean) then you'll need to make some compromises as I did.

From experience I'll take something like a Duratrac over any of the so called all seasons junk
Ran BFG ATs one winter, had to use 4 wheel drive all of the time
The next winter had Duratracs and never hardly touched 4WD, didn't have to.
Have friends with the AT2s/ Silent Armors and like the BFGsATs not impressed at all with them.

I just picked up a pair of BFGoodRich Rugged Terrain T/As. They got a nice tread pattern that extends down to the side wall. They get a little noisy between 50-60mph but thats about it. I spent about $700 for a set of 5 from tirerack.com.
My sisters boyfriend owns a garage so mounting and balancing only cost me a lunch and dinner for that day :happy107:

I also agree the duratacs are very sweet, but for slightly less money, road noise, and wear I suggest BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain. Not All terrain, Just rugged terrain. They are a really great all season and highway tire with a nice rugged look. Use Tirerack.com they are cheaper than most for any tire you buy.

Price, availability (if not ordering on-line), and prefererence. We have GY Silent Armours because they are a good tire at a decent price (altho there were other Brands in the choice mix that were less expensive). Being rural we drive 45 mins to town on pavement, plus a lot of dirt and gravel roads, snow in winter, rain, and two-tracks; they work brilliantly - night & day difference over stock (as expected). I'm not big on having two sets of tires then having to store or swap them out twice a year so these fit the bill. But that's just me. As others have said, there are a lot of good all-season tires out there...most people won't notice the difference for everyday all-around driving. But if you are trying for specific seasonal performance then you have to go with a two-sets. There's always trade-off's...unless you are Speed Racer and have the special button on the steering column that adds traction treads. :icon_cool:

Just to throw a few more suggestions out there: I've personally owned Toyo Open Country AT's and loved them. Had the older style Yokohama Geolander AT+ tires, and they were pretty good too. Just put on a set of Wild Country XTX Sport AT tires on my Jeep, they are very similar to the Toyo's.

If you have an independent Cooper Tire dealer near you, check them out too. They will probably carry the Wild Country XTX's and Hercules Terra Trac A/T. I got my set of 265/75R16's installed for $570 out the door...pretty economical price if you ask me. :)
