I've been struggling to figure out a good place for my 2mtr rig in this 2004 Libby. While looking over old threads I found a post by Monkeyfart back in 2010. I like this idea but don't want to cut into my original equipment glove box. I've been looking online and it seems that I could get a used glove box for really cheap ($15+/-). I would be okay chopping into a used one for this project. I'm not in the Jeep at the moment so I'm just free thinking here - is it hard to take the glove box door off and replace it with another one? Here's the picture from the Monkeyfart dude.

I'm open to any ideas pro or con on this idea. If I did do it I would want to finish off the cut out rough edges with some trim.

When I had my Mustang this is how I dealt with mounting the rig. There's no room in the Jeep to do anything along these lines.

That does look cool.
But I would be concerned about the radio getting too hot due to lack of air circulation.
I'm about to bite the bullit on an FT-8900 Rig for our truck.
Mount the main radio consoul in the back behind the rear 1/4 pannel trim and mount the detachable face plate to the right of the steering wheel.

Cooling did cross my mind too. This little rig isn't too powerful - if I keep it at 25 watts it doesn't really get hot. I'd love a radio with a detachable face plate. Perhaps one day...

I have a couple little HTs laying around, might be easier to find a little nook for one of those before getting into the hacking of the glove box. I just really like things being anchored down though.

I'll keep working on it. The Mustang idea hit me one night when I couldn't sleep. That turned out pretty well. Everyone thought I was a cop in an unmarked with all of that black stuff on the dash and several antennas on the trunk. I appraise real estate and have a laptop mount on the floor - that added to the look although that was not what I was going for.

Mount Attempts - Quick YouTube Video

I had some time today to work on this. I tried a couple of DIY brackets similar to one I built before but the Jeep dash is much smaller and tighter than other cars I've had.

Here are some of my attempts and mounting solution for now.

(A head unit would certainly be easier - or a mic unit as suggested)
