Well, it's about time to replace my ragged Goodyear Wrangler SR-As. I'm probably going to keep the same stock size (235/70/16) so I'm guaranteed to have absolutely no rubbing (adding an extra 3/4 of an inch will probably cause rubbing at wheel lock) due to old sagged suspension that I don't have the money to replace right now. Now, I was looking for tires, and got really excited about the General Grabber AT2. Only problem is that the tire is DISCONTINUED. :pp: Anyway, I'm at a loss. I want something with a better tread pattern than Firestone Destination ATs and better reviews than Kumho Road Venture AT KL78s. Anyone have any good suggestions? I'm probably going to go for the Firestones at this point because they're about 30 dollars cheaper each than any Grabbers I find still out there, but I figured I'd get a few more opinions.

Thanks much everyone!

I'm in the midst of replacing my stock 17's and going down to a 16" rim.

I went with the BFG AT KO in a LT235/70/16 - gets you into a 6-ply C rated tire as opposed to a 4-ply passenger rated tire. A 6-ply gives you a good balance between side wall strength and flexibility for off-road. Plus here in BC I need a winter rated tire/snowflake stamped tire - which this gives me.

The Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo is another tire I've heard good things about, as well as the Goodyear SilentArmour.

Nitto Terra Grapplers. Have them on both my vehicles.

Since I've got a pretty sagged suspension, I need the tire at stock specs. Unfortunately, I can't find those in 235/70/16. Looks like they don't exist :(

I'm actually not a fan of the Bridgestone tread pattern, not to mention that they, along with the SilentArmour and BFG are pretty pricey tires. If the budget was there, I would definitely be getting something along these lines though.

Tire Rack and Discount Tire still have them listed.
Might be worth giving them a call or email.

The Hankook Dynapro ATM (RF10) is an excellent A/T tire as well.

They are also a little less expensive then the Grabbers.

The Grabbers on tire rack AND on discounttiredirect are backordered :( And since they're disco'd I don't think they're getting any more. Just my 2 cents on it. You're right though, I could call. I'm gonna keep looking at my options first.

I like the look and price of those Hankooks. Not to mention free shipping?!?! I might have to read more about these. Thanks!!!

I have been trying to get Grabber AT2's for months, finally gave up. On the recommendation of my tire guy, I am trying out Cooper Discoverer AT3's in 245-70-16 on stock 05 Jeep and steel rims. They look pretty good, and so far I've been happy with them on the road. No more snow to test in! Haven't had them off road much yet but I hope to over the course of the summer.

Those actually look great too, but I can't find numerous good reviews for them in one place. Know where I can find that?

Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

I'm looking at them there. No reviews :\

Not that I don't trust your word, but I like to weigh my odds. I also wanna see how tread life is on them too.

I honestly haven't had them long enough to recommend or not, and like you I didn't find a huge amount of reviews on the web, but I think they're pretty new - replacing the ATR from what I've read.

I did a quick google and read some positive things but went more on the recommendation of my tire guy who I trust not to steer me too wrong.

This is only one person's review but it's fairly comprehensive...

I got 225/75/16 Goodyear Wrangler Authority...Wal-Mart only tires and had them installed elsewhere. On sale I paid $98/tire and a couple days later the spare for $68. They do have road noise but are great in snow/rain. I have about 5k miles on them so far and am very pleased.

Just bought a new set of Nexen Roadian SUV tires. They're really highway tires with limited sidewall off road protection but boy are they whisper quiet. They have a slightly aggressive look, but it's pretty tame. Cost about $130 each. 80% of my driving is highway these days.

Hmmm. They're $164 right now. A little more than I ask to pay for on a tire that is rarely reviewed and exclusively sold...at Walmart...

Looks like a pretty nasty tire though. It's got that "Grrrrrrrr" look! :p

Yeah not looking for something with insane road manners. I blast the music anyway. I'm between the Coopers and the Hankooks right now. Leaning more towards the Hankooks because they've got a plethora of reviews out there.

The only thing that worried me is that some reviews said it had a thin sidewall. :\

Not sure if you want to spend the money, but I recommend the GoodYear Wrangler Silent Armor tires. I've had them on my Liberty for awhile. They are excellent on snow/ice and do very well off road also.

Yeah not looking to pay that much for tires. I think I'm gonna go for the Hankooks.

Just as an FYI, I've had Hankook Dynapro ATM's on all my work trucks and on our KJ.
I think they are excellent.
The only reason we don't have them on our KJ now is because we wanted M/T Tires.

I don't wheel enough for M/Ts the Dynapros seem like they'll overall be the best choice for 90% highway driving, 10% everything else. The main thing I was actually looking for was better hydroplaning resistance...because the SR-As are LITERALLY the worst tire I've ever driven with. Be it I don't have much tire experience, but it certainly doesn't take much to get the rear wheel to spin in rain. And it doesn't take much to get me to begin to slide/spin out either.

Worst. Tire. Ever. Arguably, I can say I probably would never get a Goodyear tire again.

Well, British Columbia has shit loads of rain and that's one of the things I liked best about the ATM's is their wet weather handling.
My one work truck, a Chrysler AWD mini van was excellent in the rain.
I averaged about 150 miles a day for work in that vehicle and used it as my personal car as well. Around 950+ miles per week.
So yeah, excellent tires in my opinion.
As far as your Goodyear SR-A's
I think those are only good as bumpers for tugboats!

Mind you, originally I wanted Hankook Dynapro MT's but weren't available.
But other Goodyear tires are very good.
Our M/T R Kevlar tires are excellent. So much so that we're on our second set!
