Thinking about replacing my 02 Liberty but have read rumors about Chrysler discontinuing the Liberty. Anyone out there heard anything recently about this disturbing issue?

"Say it ain't so, Joe, say it ain't so" That makes me sad to even think about it. With the economy the way it is, there's a lot of "fat trimming" going on, so who knows what's going to happen!

For model year '13 or '14 it will be a car based crossover based off of a Fiat vehicle.

Dang it, I like my truck! If I wanted a car-based SUV I would have purchased a Ford Escape or Honda CRV or something like that. No thanks...

just wait until the new model is announced, get a screaming deal on a KK. People complain about the KK's being the watered down version of the JK, but the KK still holds its own, and well at that. Or just buy a 4 door JK

Another POS crossover? That's a slap in the face to the Jeep name.

There are already 2 Jeep crossover models; the Compass and the Patriot. The slapping happened awhile ago. :D

People said the same thing about the Libby when it came out. An IFS Jeep? Blasphemy! And even about the Cherokee. A unibody Jeep? Blasphemy!

Here in the UK there's only the Grand Cherokee, the Compass and the Wrangler for sale now. Not sure when that happened. My dealer has also stopped dealing! They are now service only as they couldn't sell enough vehicles. Nearest main dealer is almost two hours away.
Pretty sad that there's no more Cherokee here - I've had two and loved them both. Guess I'll just hang onto the one I have. It's either that or buy a Landrover.

I think the patriot looks more like a jeep than the grand cherokee. If only it was more capable.

Car mfg.'s are in the game to make money
the KJ and KK are known to "have their issues"
as well as not ride like the competition nor get
the mpg.
I know that some will argue that the
Liberty is in a different class but to the 95% it
falls in a class with RAV4 and CR-V which
get better MPG and ride better
Chrysler needs to compete and the piss poor excuses
in the Compas and Pat. are not cutting it
Trust me they suck compared to the others
We gave them a look when we bought our VW
If you like a 2500# under powered box go for
them ,same for the imports but better mpg
and ride, this is why we got the VW
As long as they keep the wrangler they will have
what they want from the off road market
Sorry I have to be the voice of reason

You know thinking a little more about it
there is not a single vehicle on the market
that I want
Really nothing in the past 5 years has been worth
a darn ,nothing
We got the VW based on mpg and "get up and go"
the latter of which I would/will give up if they offer
the TDI in their compact SUV
If as Americans we could just gt away from our
love of unleaded gas and move to diesel
To heck with hibrid or electric
Ford is stupid with their twin turbo Eco-boost junk
Give me a compact SUV with a small oil burner
getting 40+ mpg
Which I don't mind pointing out VW has a mid sized
car that gets 45 mpg but is no snail out on the road

Rant over

Personally I think jeep should have done a car like the Honda crosstour, 4wd, some pretty nice ground clearance (for a station wagon), and IMHO not that bad looking. I'm kinda surprised jeep hasn't gotten into the car market yet being that 95% of their vehicles never see anything worse than a gravel road anyways...

Compass and Patriot are cars. To me the newest Wranglers with their size, body color hard top and plusher interior are more Liberty-like than ever.

I'm probably in the minority, but I specifically looked at Jeep because I wanted a rear/4wd compact SUV that had a decent tow capacity. I AVOIDED the CR-V and RAV4 for the reason that they're really nothing more special than an AWD car with larger tires.

I don't know much about the history or future of jeeps but I got a kj because they can be whatever you want them to be. I can tackle any road my boyfriend takes his wrangler on but I can also close the windows, crank the ac, pump some music, and safely lock all my work stuff in the back under my cargo shelf. I have to put up with a lot of people telling me Mr. Darcy isn't a jeep, including my boyfriend who is of the class who thinks only wranglers are jeeps, but I know I can tow him out of anything he gets stuck in and be perfectly comfortable. As for the future of the libertys, I really don't care. It will be a looooong time before I get another vehicle so why even bother? IMHO.

J-Thompson is right. We're the minority who actually want a more rugged vehicle, even if it means it's a gas guzzler.

I work for GM now. I'd love to drive a GM. But, there's nothing other than a Tahoe, that would interest me. People here can't understand that. "Why don't you get an Equinox?" They don't see the difference. Most consumers look at the size of the vehicle and consider them all the same.

I am bummed - GM is redesigning the Colorado/Avalanche. They have announced production of a new Trailblazer on this platform. Body-on-frame, etc. The point is for it to be a midsize, rugged vehicle. They have announced, though, that there is no plan to bring it to North America - they don't feel the market would support it. As much as I'd love to see it, I think they are right. Wouldn't sell that well.

^^^THAT.

I enjoy mine. That's all I care about. I probably won't get a new one because, honestly, I want to drop a little bit more money into a brand new car/Jeep/SUV so it can do exactly what I plan to do with it. Whether I'm dragging a Subaru Impreza WRX STI or trailblazing with a Wrangler Rubicon, I'll be completely happy. And I'm completely happy now with my 2004 Liberty. She gets me from A to B with decent style, AND she can get me to cool places your CRV and RAV4 can't go.

I totally agree with J-Thompson. I'd love to have one of those TDIs. Hybrids and electric is NOT going to work. That is my Nostradamus-like prediction. They will all fail. Pretty soon all the Prius batteries are going to go caput and the owners are going to start barking like dogs. Its starting to happen with Honda. Lot's of people are finding they get about 30 mpg when the batteries start to fail and are going WTF, where's the 50mpg gone?

small diesel is the way to go as I see it. I'd take a TDI in a heartbeat.

No Liberty in the future for me at all.

oh and.. That's just another ugly chevy.

Better looking than the KJ IMO. You know what they say about opinions :smokin:

I don't see a single source solution for the future, and for whatever reason people don't seem to consider a multi-source approach. The gasolione/hybrid/alternative energy/diesel all need to be options so the consumer can choose which works for their situation. Switching from gasoline to another since source will only cause similar bottleneck and longevity issues with that new energy source.

I think the right answer is "all of the above".
