i recently bought a kenwood HU. and when i was splicing the wiring harness adapter to the kenwood plug i noticed i had about 7 unmatched wires (3from one end and 4 from the other) as well as some wires that i matched but after looking at them they look a lil different. that being for example the green wire from the adapter and the green from the kenwood plus being slightly different greens but still solid colors nonetheless.

what do i do with the unused wires?
Do i have the "basically" same color wires correctly matched?

i dont want to mess anything up.

thanks

Most of the time you should be able to wire them up by function not just by color. It is understandable for them to have different shades of blue/green, etc..

Look at your kenwood HU manual, it will indicate what each wire is for, most of the time they will even have small tabs on them. Same goes for the harness, it should say wire your left front speaker to yellow on harness, etc.. Before my first install I didnt know anything about the wire colors, but I did not screw up anything, except forgetting to wire the amp wire to remote on lead on the radio because jeep is "special" !

It is pretty common for two or three wires to be left, depending on the vehicle and additions. For example, the power antenna wire, the amp control wire and the illumination wires will be left open unless you have another use for them.

I have an amp and I used a radio booster that hooks into the power antenna wire, so I only have the illumination wire left, which the HU doesn't support.

four wires on each side might be one to many, but I don't know a lot about your HU.

I would comb back over the manuala and the adaptor instructions really well. Write it out on a piece pf paper if you need to.
