im interested in purchasing an aftermarket headunit. i have an '04 sport with the crap soundsystem.

1. i dont wanna spend more than $100 and it needs RCAs in the back for my sub which i think all aftermarket stereos have anyway. and it doesnt need anything besides presets for am/fm and a single cd if that.

2. where do i get the little plastic adapter thing so the headunit fits and how much is that gonna be?

3. i wanna replace the front door speakers as well. what size are they anyway and do they sell speakers that will receive that little white plug? i would like to only spend $70 for the pair.

4. please provide a link/model # if you have one.

thanks

good luck replacing front speakers, they will be pain in the ass if you have premium speakers.

get a $100 kenwood stereo, they sound excellent with stock premium sound system, if you are getting aftermarket speakers, you need to test them otherwise you will be disappointed. Go to best buy they have most common speakers in demo, generally s type or infinity references are good, but depends on your budget.

go to crutchfield.com, when you order from them it will come with the adapters for radio, harness, antenna jacks and if you order speakers too, they will come with ring adapters as well

You don't need a new head unit if all you need is s CD player and RCAs. You can get an amp with balanced inputs and wire it directly to the head unit. A $100 Kenwood deck won't "sound" any different than what's already there.

sorry i didnt say that right. what i meant was is that i dont necessarily need an ipod or aux jack cuz i have one hard wired in real nice already and the amp will cost more and i was looking for more of an economical upgrade kind of thing so i could have better control of my sub and more power to the speakers.

I am extremely happy with my Sony Xplode CDX-GT550UI headunit and my Kicker speakers. The HU is currently $89.99 on Crutchfield and the Kicker DS60's are $69.99. Includes RCA outputs and a USB and AUX input on the front.

OR, they have a Sony CXS-GT5516F Package that includes two XS-GF1622X 6-1/2" speakers for $110.49.

You will need to install a standard one din because even the six disc CD changer stereos (RBQ) are not a full two din stereo. Unless you do fairly heavy modifications, you can't fit a two din in the KJ. The six disc changers are the same size as the regular stereos.

Ok. i like these a lot. my next question is do the HUs have a customizable EQ where i can put all the bass on the sub? its prolly a dumb obvious question but i havnt really done a lot of research on HUs so i just wanted to ask. and Secondly does it have buttons for am/fm presets? third, did you hear any sound improvement with the kickers and new HU?

thanks

The HUs do have a customizable EQ. I also added a Sound Ordnance sub and you can pump more bass to the sub if you want. It has a separate sub EQ as well.

It does have buttons for AM/FM presets.

I added the kicker components in the front and full range in the rear. The components with the woofer in the door and the tweeter in the dash sound very good. However, since I added a sub as well, I can't make a direct comparison. The music is much more clear. I can say that.

Well worth it in my opinion.

Hi Everyone, I ended up going with a new Sony Bluetooth Receiver MEX-BT39UW($170) and 2 x 6.5" Sony 4- Way Woofers XS-R1644($47 at Walmart) in the front doors, to go with the MTX Sub and the RF Punch 120 that I have. I wanted to go with the hands free setup that why I went for the bluetooth.

I had to eliminate using any of the stock speakers, at least at the moment, due to amps being installed in both the left and right front speakers. All the sound actually runs through them with one harness for all. I only hooked up the new Sony's after finding a wiring diagram, and thinking they will be enough. When I get some time and it gets a little warmer I may try to hook up the mid-ranges just to try them out.

All in all it sounds really tight, nice strong feel, with very little distortion, or outside noise/vibration. I still have to fine tune the sub and eq over a little bit of time but all in all I like it so far.
