Just want to get your opinion about putting a unchip on for the 2.5 CRD? Pro's and cons?

DASTEK supposedly provide good chips....I personaly am not a fan of chipping as you normaly get better power but worse fuel consumption.
I recently ordered a black box for about $110 from E-bay...it was for a simple box that plugs into the fuel rail sensor to fool the ECU that more pressure is needed....it came from some Italian company and was easy to fit. Early impressions were that low down power was better but fuel consumption was about 10% worse.
I probably traveled about 500 kms with it when the black box went "bang" on the open road and I ground to a halt and had to remove the box. It was not worth the hassle with customs etc. to return the black box under warranty.:freak3:
So my advise is to avoid cheap overseas supplied boxes or chips...DASTEK at least are local and you can tell them what you are looking for..performance or fuel consumption improvement....you will not get both!
There is a company in the USA, Green Diesel Engineering, who have a good reputation on all of the Jeep forums for re-programming the ECU to either get good power or better economy....problem is you have to ship the circuit board inside the ECU to them to be programmed and returned.
Maybe better to trade your 2.5 in on a newer 2.8 CRD?

Hi
I would go with the advise of Billwill, don't mess around. Yes, we all would like an extra couple of ponies under the bonnet but is it worth the hassel?! I also have a CRD 2.5 and yes would love some more power, but is it really worth it? Also in my opinion the CRD 2.5 is a better engine than the 2.8, it's been around a very long time..... well se VM..... :smokin: :icon_lol:

The 2.8 engine itself is basicaly the same as the 2.5 engine; however Jeep in their wisdom screwed up and complicated a good system with the various ancilliary components they fitted to the engine.
The 2002 2.5 CRDs definitely seem a lot more reliable in all respects compared to their later cousins from what I have seen on the various Jeep forums.

Any chance you can get a ECM tune from some place like Inmotion? They do the job that should have been done from day one, not just trick the ECM with resistors and other cheep stuff.
