the engine....

just kidding, depends on your tune-up interval, a lot of newer cars only need a few things, such as air filter, oil change and an inspection.

If you are in the higher mileage range you can do the following

  • Change Oil
  • Change Diff fluids
  • Change Transmission Fluid
  • Replace Serpentine Belt (and tensioner)
  • Change Air Filter
  • Replace Spark Plugs

Also remove the summer air from your tires and install some good winter air:happy175:

Check your serpentine belt first to see if it needs to be replaced. If it squeals or has cracks in it, replace.

You don't need to replace your fluids very often-- except for oil of course. Just make sure they're filled.

Do make sure your tires are properly inflated. Lights and signals are working. Remove any corrosion from the battery.

I do my oil about every 3 to 4 months. Mostly when the Liby rolls its short trips.

I just got a Amsoil filter for the airbox, I currently have a K&N. I just saw on a site that did test that the Amsoil and K&N are about same in quality of filtation. (oh well).

I got NGK plugs for it and new filter for the Trans and Royal Purple trans fluid going in tommorow.

I got new oil and Wix filter for the engine I willbe changing later..

The belt seems fine. No squeels. I will look at the groves to see if they are cracking tommorow.

I got gear oil for the rear axle. First time I changed it, the oil looked like new in the rear, and the front probably was new. Anyway, it has seen more highway miles in the past 2 years here in NC than it saw in its first 3 years in Hawaii.

I really think I have babied it since I had it. I just want to maximize its fuel effeciency.

K&N air filters are a big no-no unless your racing where engine longevity is not a issue.Do not use RP ATF in your auto trans,it will ruin it,only use approved ATF+4 fluid only and RP is not approved for your trans.Your serp belt,if OEM,is EPDM and will not show cracks and you have to measure the ridge depths to determine wear. When in doubt just replace it every 60k with a new EPDM belt(OEM or Gates) and new tensioner.

Those things above are pretty good to do. I hear seafoam is a pretty good route to go as well. Do a little "Spring Cleaning" on the fuel system :)

Also, make sure to get an exhaust sample ready for analysis. Those can tell a lot about the tune of an engine.

Do not use RP ATF in your auto trans,it will ruin it,only use approved ATF+4 fluid only and RP is not approved for your trans.

I don't use RP so I don't really care either way. But, RP lists their ATF as suitable for ATF+4 applications. Mopar says that for an aftermarket manufacturer to do that the fluid must be tested by Mopar and approved. So either RP has been tested and approved or RP is open to litigation.

I just spoke with Jeep Customer Service and the local Jeep Service Dept, and lastly Royal Purple tech dept and Royal Purple Max ATF is authorized and will not damage the transmission. It has all the chemical additives to make it equal to ATF+4. See their site here >> http://www.royalpurple.com/transmission-chart.html

I have the K&N air filter n it now. I got a Wix filter I am going to put in. Just had to order it.

As for the belt, it just now has 30K on it. And it didnt show any signs of cracking.

So my factory installed belt with 118,000 miles is probably due for a change?

It would probably fail the wear test, even though it may not show cracks. The ribs wear, and get wider, to put it in simple terms, and wont grip the pulley enough, and cause noises, and slippage. The rubber does fatigue, and can lead to failure as well.

The only apporved ATF's for your trans,if it's not on this list they did not submit to being tested and approved.

As I said... I called Jeep spoke to them today. They gave me their take. Then I called the local Jeep Dealer tech dept.. But when Jeep says RP is fine because it exceeds ATF+4 requirements and is safe to use in Jeep..

Yes I know RP can say anything, Just so you know I am not just a RP nut.. If you look the link I gave you.. It does not support ATF F-Type.. Which is in my 63 Falcon which is worth way more than my Jeep. So.. When its not compatable RP is saying it is not..

BTW your link has a copyright date of 1998. Thats 3 years ago. So I suspect its not the latest list.

It also says the list was updated on March 25, 2011. The copyright is for the website itself not that list. They were still using ATF+2 in 1998. (+3 and +4 had not come out yet)

Whoops my bad. I didnt see that.

Well Jeep USA and the local Jeep dealer said RP is ok for Jeep transmissions.
Use what Chrysler states as they have the final word if you have any type of powertrain warranty left. They will test the ATF if your trans fails,if it's not a ATF+4(and yes they can prove it as it's a special chemical formula) your out of luck.Plus any take the chance and ruin your trans, all approved ATF+4's are full synthetic and cheaper then RP.
