Any ideas or better yet plans to make this happen?

I like the sound of a cold air intake but ive been looking through threads and how many people dont like them. A snorkel seems like a good route to take for sure just not so sure about cutting away at the body...

Also if i did decide to run a cold air intake, which brand is the best, cheapest?

What would happen in i hit a good size mud puddle or water hole and a bunch of water hit the open filter? That just sounds bad!!

Thanks in advance!

I have a snorkel on my Liberty and I can tell you it doesn't change the sound at all, so if you are just going the cool sound a snorkel is not for you. I have a K&N CAI on my wifes Liberty as hers never sees any thing more than sand at the beach and it sure sounds 'cool' but I wouldn't want to get any water on it. Also using my Mac Tools Taskmaster I checked the intake temperature of the different setups and the CAI is about the same temp as the stock airbox but the snorkel is quite a few degrees cooler.

which snorkel do you have? how hard was it to install? other than the snorkel what other mods did you have to do to make it work?

I have the ARB Safari Snorkel, no other mods are required for the snorkel, it comes with everything. As for how hard, it isn't really hard you just have to be comfortable drilling some big a$$ holes in your fender. It comes with templates so there is no guessing where to drill. It took me less than 2 hours from start to finish in my driveway with a cordless drill, hole saw kit and basic hand tools.

I have a cold air intake in my KJ, I got it online from Chrome Intakes on E-Bay. I paid like $28.00 for it to include shipping. It was easy to install it took like 15-20 mins., but also that same week I got a Dynomax Turbo Muffler. Then two weeks later my brother in law installed my Helix Throttle Body Spacer from Taylor Cable Products. I will say that all in all I get between 2-4mpg increase and torque increase. But, I just do not take it in water that is over the bumper, and that is what is nice about a snorkel. You should ask yourself what you are going to do with your jeep and the places that you will take it.

No, I have no outerwear for the filter. I have been thinking about making some metal plate to go under the filter to protect it from water. But, like I said before I just don't take it in deep water.

Has anyone ever used K&N's air filter that fits in the stock assebly? It's like $50. I know you can clean them and they're good for a very long time, but do they add any other benefits like K&N claim to?

K&Ns =no good on the KJ
tried one for 25,000 miles
and swapped it out for Amsoil in the stock box with 4 inch hose from the grill to the box, better mileage / runs smoother
just say no to those hot air suckers

The K&N filter I'm looking at is the same set up as the Amsoil-- in the stock box position. I looked at a lot of the old threads about cold air intakes and decided no on that. I also live in an area that floods a lot and would have to worry about that too! Any specifics on the four inch hose?

I have the K&N filter that goes in the stock placement http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=33-2233 and have been running it for about 2,500 miles (which is probably equal to about 5,000 stateside miles) and thus far haven't had any complaints. I had an initial peak in mpg that flattened off to about a 2mpg gain from what I was getting before.

What don't you like about the K&Ns on the KJ?
