As I am ignorant to the purpose, what does this do? Is it to use different rims or does it just widen the wheel base a tad?

I've really been debating doing this...I don't know why I am leery of them. I'd love to widen the stance a little (plus my 235/75's rub on the sway bar a decent amount - next set will be 245's and I am sure rub worse) and I'd love to paint the rims a dark grey like the new Islander edition wrangler.

Wheel spacers are used to either run different bolt pattern wheels and to increase the track width of a vehicle.
In Tim' case (and on our KJ) they are used to widen the stance of the wheel/tire set up.

Maybe the horror stories? Or the added load? It just feels flimsy, and claims made stating it is no different than aftermarket wheels with different backspacing, regardless, you are actually putting something in between the wheel and the jeep.

The same thing as using wheels with a different offset/back spacing or wider
wheels like Moab 16"X 8" wheels.
Our KJ has had 1.25 inch wheel spacers fitted for the last 18 months
with No problems what so ever.
Oh, our KJ also has the factory wheel bearing.

SpiderTrax Wheel Spacers

Ryan & Jen Has had no problems with theirs, and I do look forward to a more aggressive stance. I also hope the spacers with my 245's help to remove a bit of rubbing issues as well.
It also should help being more stable (not feeling so top heavy) especially when the roof basket is loaded.
Time will tell on the overall performance, but I am more confident with the SpiderTrax because they should not corrode or stick to the rotors being anodized. This truly is a must for Canuck :disgust:salty conditions.

Lugs Too!

I also know that along with the Spidertrax Spacers, must also arrive some McGard 64010 lug nuts.
My stock lugs with that plastic cap are breaking and are a real piece of :poop:

I've had the German, TuV-approved Hoffmann spacers on mine for about 18 months now and no problems. They widen the track by 60mm, which might not seem like much, but its noticeable and it has made the vehicle feel more stable on bends.

I have not experienced any problems with the wheel bearings as yet, but I suspect that the wear rate will be no worse than if I'd fitted wheels with a different backspace.

The only thing I'd say, is that after you've run them for about 500 miles - take the wheels off and retorque, and remember that red locktite is your friend:)

I just keep visualizing my jeep's wheels doing splits with these. It's just the feeling I can't shake off. It sure looks good, though.

I bought a used set of Spidertrax back when I still had stock wheels. Installed them made a weekend run from Ohio to Boston and back, could feel no difference in handling/ride at all. Took them off and sold them right after returning from that weekend. Some like them and good for them, I don't but was willing to try them and see for myself.

Pushing your wheels out may solve the rubbing on the sway bar, but...

It may also cause rubbing on the pinch weld or front bumper (when turning) as the arc the tire travels through is now a larger radius.

With 245/75-16 MTR/Moabs the tire sits out about an inch further on each side (different backspace). In looking at it, the same tire woul just about clear the pinch welds if it were 1" closer to the vehicle (thats with about 50% of the tread left on mine).

The only rubbing on our Rig with the wheel spacers and 245-75-16 M/T R's is the plastic covering the pinch weld and the fog light access door, and only in reverse.

You do realize that running spacers or nonstock offset rims will increase the load on the front wheel unit bearings.

Still I'm interested in trying a spacer to run a 15" rim on my Libby.

Maybe so.
But like I've said before in previous posts...
W have not had any problems with our wheel bearings what so ever!
Not to mention that I also run 1.5 inch wide wheel spacers in my Rally Mini
with "Ball bearings" (Not Roller bearings) and have never had any problems!

Again, the same as using wider wheels with different back spacing/offset.

Besides, it's our vehicle and if it were to cause wheel bearing problems we accept that issue and we will replace the bearing units when required.

Ya Dave , just for you..I think Dave is getting more excited than I am...LOL
I will start by posting pics of packaging when they arrive supposedly tomorrow night.
Then as they get installed a few pics, and then the grand finale' before & after for width from the front of course. It may be a week or so for installation, as I got brakes and other KJ crap to do this weekend.
Should I post em under wheel section? With link from here over to wheels for further pics?

I have an '06 and like you said, I've worn some small holes in the pinch weld plastic, but no sign of metal contact.

The bigest problem, is backing up with the wheels turned. Then the tire cleats seam to catch the lip on the front air dam.

I want to get out the saws-all, but my wife is affraid I'll take off eveything under the license plate :biggun:.

It's her jeep :whip: and one of use has to be sane...

I'm following posts on another Jeep forum where some guy bought a set of wheel spacers off off eBay. He can't seem to get the lug nuts threaded enough to hold the spacers safely. Here's hoping you don't have the same issue.
