so as i was trying to extend my breather tubes today i found this...

the boot on the front driveshaft, up against the transfer case, has a nice tear in it... I have dont a little bit of research so far and it looks like I either have to replace the whole shaft, or try and rebuild the CV joint.
anyone else have any experience with this situation, I would rather not drop 3-500 dollars on a new shaft if i can help it. are the CV rebuilds worth it?

right now there is no noticeable noise from it, do i just ride it out until it gets worse/ or breaks/ or is this a semi-immediate attention type of thing.

 maybe fill it with grease best i can and wrap it with electrical tape :hmm:

Thanks for posting the pics Khalil, it's nice to see stuff like that and what to look for. Gonna check mine when I get a chance, just for fun.

Other than normal everyday tools, you'll need a pair of snap-ring pliers and a boot clamp crimp tool. Not too difficult.

well again, thanks for posting your issue. Crawled under mine today and found the same thing but in worse shape. Another thing on my TO-DO list if the weather can dry up a bit.

Pretty cool. Although I think the bolts on mine are probably rusted beyond recognition, I should do a visual inspection down there one day.
