I've heard way too many libs sounding like ricers around the web, anyone found a setup they actually think sounds decent? I'm almost to the point of giving up looking for something I think I would like, but when it comes down to it what could possibly mask these 3.7L 6 bangers we're all stuck with right. I heard a few super 44's sound ok but nothing convincing. What do you guys think?

Ive kept it stock too, not that i like it but more due to the fact i didnt want to do something like just clamp on a muffler and absolutley hate it. Id like to see what a true duals or glasspacks would sound like.

It's a v6, it will sound like garbage with any exhaust.

Might as well just put a hemi in it, cause nothing sounds like a v-8 except a v-8.

ha a hemi is a little unreasonable. just sayin theres plenty of other small 6 cylinder trucks that sound alright out there, no one seems to try much of anything on these jeeps though

What have you heard that sounds ricer?

I haven't heard any KJ sound like a ricer no matter what exhaust was used. Maybe there's something I haven't seen/heard?

Removed third cat, installed 28in. thrush glaspac lift stock pipe to rear. Sounds pretty good bouncing off the rev limiter.

From what I have read and understand, the stock exhaust gives the most
low end torque and louder mufflers suck some of the much need torque
away and only gain you a little extra horsepower high up in the rpm range.
That and the only real advantage to a performance muffler is when you
start adding all the other power enhancing modifications such as tuning
chips, performance throttle body, and headers.
Just saying.

I am running on 50 Series and it actually sounds very good. If you want it to be noticeable but not bothersome, you may try 50 or 40. It is hard to try them both unless you have time and money to spend shipping back to manufacturer, I don't even know if they offer satisfaction guarantee, you can check. But to say that there is nothing that will make your jeep sound better is incorrect. It really almost never sounds like a ricer. It has a very nice hum & howl to it, and once you hit that sweet spot, it sounds very nice. It needs to be in gear and moving to get nice sound (which is probably due to amount of air it is sucking) otherwise at red light you won't scare anyone..

Would adding a B&G tune, flat panel intake with the drier hose mod, and a fastman throttle body prevent the lost low end torque that a high flow muffler causes?

If I wasn't so lazy and video editing inept I would have posted a video by now of my Thrush Weld. It sounds awesome, but not annoying. My wife hated my Explorer with the Cherry Bombs on it and actually doesn't mind the KJ. Hopefully, this thread will light a fire under me **** and I will get around to making a video and posting.

Cannot embed here, this is my jeep and you really need to hear it in person, most of the videos don't do justice:

^^^ i've seen your vid before hyed, sounds pretty nice at start and idle and it doesnt sound like you would get much drone from it. You think you could throw together a little drive by vid if you dont have one already? I had all but crossed out the 50 series as an option, wonder how much of a diff sound say a 3.5-4" tip would make..?

To be honest im looking for something a little more aggresive. Im no stranger to the ear piercing crackle of straight pipes and no cats on just about anything with 4 wheels around here so my mind cant help but wonder whats out there

Nonetheless, Im really interested in the glasspacks right now, thought there were only two cats but i dont have a problem cutting one riden. id love to hear a clip of yours and also of renegade's as well, anything would be great not picky at all!

im looking at doing jba headers and a borla exhaust in the next couple of years figure if im gunna do anything i might as well do it right and all at once but it will be expensive to do a full exhaust like that id say do a decent cat back and a high flow cat and ull be fine

I had a ride by and inside videos, but they did not really sound good because my cameras do not have big microphones, so the bass/low tones (exhaust sound) does not really reflect well on my videos.
I will see if I can get someone to hold my camera so I can do a proper drive by, but i can't promise. If you like aggressive 50 won't satisfy much, but it makes jeep sound more powerful than it is for sure.

My first post here & glad to be part of the community! I'm sure the topic has been beat to death, but here's my .02

Being the cheapskate that I am, I did some research and found the cheapest system that would help the most. I had a hard time finding Dyno sheets on 3.7L applications but Magnaflow does have info. Magnaflow was beyond my budget, but Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers are basically a lesser quality magnaflow universal muffler, so I'm assuming the performance gains are the same. I found the cheapest dynomax system here and dynomax is currently running a $75 rebate, so my cat-back came out to less than $150.

It sounds good enough for my needs. Not too much interior noise and not high-pitched. Of course it'll never have a nice, deep V-8 sound, but I'm over it. There is a noticeable increase in power and I consistently have a little better gas mileage as well.

note: some others have said that performance exhaust rob you of low-end torque. I haven't noticed a drop-off in torque when driving, but the Magnaflow dyno chart only shows 4500 RPM & up, so they could be hiding something.
