So i have an 03 with the manual transmission...i'm pretty sure that it is the NV1500. Since the damn thing almost refuses to go into gear when it's cold--what would it take to upgrade to the NV3500? Would it be a just a swap job or would there need to be some kind of adapter to bolt it up?

I too have the manual but an 02 and when I first got it I had big problems getting it into gear and it turned out to be the dual mass flywheel. Might be worth getting it checked before you getting another box and find out its not the box at all. I am also playing around with oils in the gerabox at the moment to try and find the right balance. Too thick and its a ***** to get into gear when its cold. Too thin and its a bit noisy when hot. Running 75/90 at the moment and its not so bad when its cold if you let it warm up for 5 mins before driving off. Still a bit noisy when hot though so might go to the other extreme and put some 75/140 diff oil in there and see what happens! Hehe. :smokin:

Hi,
I have had the same symptoms you both have mentoned. Mine is is a 2003 CRD and it's now having the gearbox rebuilt at the dealer. Be careful it might not be just wrong oil in the box but actually the syncros and bearing in the box that have wornout. In my case, I have 80K miles on the clock, looks like it got also some water in the gearbox at some stage and some rust!!!, don't want to worry anybody, but be warned!!
