I want to add some updates to the site to liven things back up. It seems the forum has slowed a bit due to it being the holidays and I want to make sure the forum keeps you coming back. What do you want to see here. I want to get a new look as I am tired of the default vbulletin skin. What do you all think? If you don't think there needs to be any new items on here, then let me know too.

I'm a noob when it comes to cars so if this is aimed at what kind of posts I'd love to see more mechanic How-to's detailing how to do things like changing different fluids, what maintenances should be done and when... As for the site it self I have no complaints. I love all the mods people do and I'm gearing up to try some myself very soon!!

Yeah - maybe almost a blow by blow service requirement.

Broken down into services and milage.

So first service at 12 500 miles

Change oil - link to how to change oil.
etc etc

All the info is already here - just needs to be linked together in a Noob guide.

Shaggy, thank you for asking.

A few years ago, L.O.S.T. sent me over here because the AZ/Southwest KJers were really 'kickin'. My recent acquisition had me looking for tech info and I wandered back over there in search of specific help. As the noob, cmjesz, has stated: "How-to's detailing how to do things like changing different fluids, what maintenances should be done and when..."

As for site 'changes', we have children and grand children that may have access to the content on this site and there are a few 'racy' areas we would rather they didn't frequent. While they are bombarded with such things in the media and society in general, they really don't need sub-****, name calling, swearing and companies that advertise under the guise of a 4 letter word shaping their lives at this time.

Can never go wrong with how to's and lots of Photo's
I am trying to keep a jeep going in the UK, on no money, and unable to work because of disability's, but to me the KJ is the perfect vehicle, it's height, ride, turning circle, ease of parking and access, so anything to save me the money I don't have is great. oh and i love seeing other folks jeeps, and what you do to them, daily rides, not special rock crawlers, I can't hope to get my KJ looking like them.

Thanks for the e-mail asking for a response. As far as changes you might want to make, IMHO that would be your business. There is a lot I am not familiar with as is but I can usually figure out how to make any changes work for me.
I am primarily a reader and have learned a lot from the opinions and experiences of others. I do enjoy the banter back and forth and almost miss some of the past conflicts that existed. Maybe part of the reason things are slower is due to some folks no longer having someone to harass due to a banning.
Part of the advantage to being "older" is the learned ability to just laugh and shake your head at the antics of the "younger" generation.
I am easy to please, so thank you and keep up the good work!

I like it just the way it is.
The topics amount and variety is a matter of time, as the users keep participating.

It isn't about the site, it is about the members. Most don't give a flying poopy what the site looks like. Honestly, anything you do Shaggy (no offense) will not do any good for the site. Just because you make it some "cool" color or put chrome on the corners doesn't mean more people will post or visit the site.
Do not change the way the site looks.

Is there anyway to make it more obvious to use the search? The same questions are being asked over and over. Some questions are understandable and I know this is the first time I've ever seen so many new people.

People come hear to give or take info. The search should be used first I think every time you ask a question. People do not come hear to see the site, they come hear to see the content. Ok, that's enough free advice. I think you can figure out the rest.

...oh and I know, here not hear. My fingers got ahead of my brain. Sorry.

The layout looks cluttered. It does not have to be a LOST clone, but that lay out is much easier and cleaner to navigate.

The biggest draw back here to me is that this site is primarily a personal blog for about 3 people. If you don't care for them or their posts, there is no reason to come here often. Being a huge post ***** on dozens of websites or an emo child are not reasons to be banned, but it certainly doesn't make it pleasant to visit as random topics is the most visited area.

Tightening up the more mature and free-wheeling content would be a death blow, IMHO. The reason this site has kept going, and this has been said repeatedly, is that it is less **** than the competition. I think you would fail big time if you try to be a clone of the goose-stepping LOST regime. I simply password protect my 'net access to control what my children can and cannot see. I then have my kids access the net through a kid-centric site that limits accidental exposure. As a parent or someone who supervises kids this is my repsonsibility. You could make the members only section only accessable by logging on. That would offer some measure of access control without limiting content too much. From there it is the caregiver's responsibility to control access.

Most here probably could care less about like/dislike as I for one do not look to the web for my warm fuzzies. But if they were easy enough to incorporate I don't think having such a thing would drive people away, either.

Good luck

Shaggy, that is normal for this site. It has always been like that..... I don't think that will ever change. One minute this place seems like it's dead, a few days later, you can't keep up with posts. It's a cycle that has been going on for years.

rockymountain, you can make the search button 640x480, people will still ignore it. lol3.gif Just tell them thanks for making the forum wider. Ha! :p

I don't frequent here as much due to time restrictions (my new job is awesome but makes me actually do work during the day). I think a skin change would be the first step towards reviving the forum. I also like the idea of the "Like" or "I found this post helpful" button to tag a post as useful. Maybe even something like a "Best Answer" kind of option when someone asks a question. They do something similar on the Microsoft Technet forums where they outline the best answer in green.

Also, maybe we can somehow sort the posts into Questions, DIY/Quick Fixes, General stories about Jeeps, Look what I Can Do, etc... categories. Or at least promote using the category emoticons to label the questions as such.

The most active forum I use allows the original poster to delete their post. I delete mine when they have run their course. Or if the thread goes off-course, I may delete it, and re-post it with clarification. And I'm thinking it may help in managing site space/storage.
