Last time At the dealer I complained of noisy lifters when hot and had them do the Mobil 1 & Filer oil change. They said normal noise.
I just checked the level on dipstick and it is overfilled by about a quart.
I read that overfilling can cause valve noise?
I guess I should take it back to the dealer and let them drain some and inspect the oil pan leak, as pan gasket above drain plug looks wet and is leaving a 3 inch round spot on driveway.:wtf2:

That is way overfilled. Not good in my opinion. You should take it back like you said but You should check the oil drain plug to make sure it is not leaking from there, Maybe they didn't tighten it? Or maybe they didn't change the filter and then just put in the 5 qts and that is why it is over a quart?

That's one of the reasons why I like to change my own.

Apparently overfilling the oil can cause high pressure buildup?

Overfilled mine after doing an oil change and it started leaking oil everywhere!
Turns out it blew apart my oil pressure sending unit.
I took it out to replace it and hooked it up to my air compressor
and sure as heck a huge leak by the plastic on the sensor and oil + air gushing everywhere.

Not 100% sure if it's related to the overfilling but that's what happened to me.

awesomeness! what kind of training exactly, do these guys need to get a job? what do they get paid? if it's good enough, then maybe i should change jobs, as i apparently know how to do a better job on 99% of the repairs i have seen dealers do.

take it back, but good luck...they'll probably just assume you added more to it.

I think it would be a good idea to drain some and ensure it is within the safe zone now and not drive the 20 miles back to dealer. I am also going to look over the pan leak and inspect the pressure sensor/around the filter to ensure I have not blown anything.
Next time I am back at the dealer I will show the photo of where their last oil change left me, and give em some serious ___(censored)!____
I looked over the FSM and the oil pan gasket if fried, ..I guess it will leak for a long time....cause other than torque bolts around the pan, thiis is way to much $ to fix it.
I have a rubber mat below the KJ now.

I've read that overfilling the crankcase can cause the oil in the pan to come in contact with the crankshaft and cause excessive foaming/airation, thus causing the engine to actually lose oil pressure. I'm not sure how true this is since I've never had it happen.

Looks overfilled to me.

FYI: make sure you're on level ground. If the jeep is parked downhill, it will look low when it isn't. If it's parked uphill, it will look high when it isn't.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Does not look overfilled to me as that is where my oil level sits and has sat for the last 9 years with zero issues, and yes I personally have done every single oil change myself and only ever added 5qts after the oil stopped dripping out of the oil pan(30-45mins of drain time).

Troy, that looks way past the top of the "fill line" to me in the pic.

? are you checking your oil when hot or cold
on a flat surface is it lifted higher front or rear
Iam kinda with Tjkj on this put in an oil filter and 5qts yourself where is the level and then judge your self where it schould be on your stick.
I would ask if you dont have an oil pressure gage how do you know what your oil pressure is.

Yeah but that does not mean much if you got 5qts of oil in and the correct filter. That pic posted is just about where mine reads when I check mine 1st thing every sunday morning(stone cold, sat for 12+ hours on level ground).I could name at least 20-25 vehicles that have known errors with there dipstaick markings and/or TSB's on oil level correctness and one is the CRD KJ.

Dang! Thats an epic overfill dude. Some people are idiots.

You should do your own oil changes man it's easy.

Ok I may have figured it out....Canada Mobil 1 is a 5 LITRE JUG.
The KJ takes 5 quarts with filter= 4.7 LITRES !
So since I asked for the jug back at oil change time they said it was empty...epic overfill. But could it be worse? They thought that 5 litres was less than quarts and added even more? Hmmmm...
I checked it hot on level surface 5 minutes after shut off.
The only reason I have been letting the dealer do the oil changes is because there still is warranty left.
Note in owners manual clearly states:
"Overfilling or underfilling the crankcase will cause aeration or loss of oil pressure. This could damage your engine."
This is GOOFY !

Ohhhh I remember when this happened to me. I wasn't too happy. But here's the thing, I gave this particular dealership a 2nd chance, the LAST time they UNDERFILLED me by about a quart. Such a shame that a dealership, of all places, would do something like this, considering they SELL the darn things!

Troy makes a valid point regarding 5 quarts installed and sits at about the same level.
Could it be that the KJ's dipsticks are not correct at the "safe zone"??
I checked the KJ last night after sitting for 12 hours cold and it was at the same mark as checked when hot.
Maybe the dealer knows that the correct fill line is the 5 quarts or 4.7 litres where it will appear over filled, at the "K" of Check above the safe zone.
Only one way to tell. Have others including myself do the oil change, with exactly 5 quarts-4.7L, and inspect the dip stick levels. I got a feeling the dipstick is wrong.
If that is the case, if you are inside the safe line, you really are low on oil. Sad.

Most of the time I change the oil myself and do not go by the qty but by the dipstick. I fill it until it reads full...
Last few times I had the dealer do the oil change and they use a gun dispenser and select the volume required (5 qtrs) and just put it in. It was too high on the dipstick 2 out of 3 times but not by as much as the picture shown at the start of this thread.

mberthia, I would not go by the dipstick!
When DIY: Drain it well and put in the 5 quarts and then see where it sits! That is the correct reading -5 quarts with a oil filter change.!

And on a further note I just looked up the dealer invoice a note to remind me was on the bill that:
My last oil change was in March. & on the bill I made a note that I did receive back some in the jug.
I now remember that even though the dealer stated the jug was empty, they did go back into the shop, and give me back the jug. (Ya my memory *****) too many details from 7 months ago.
There was still some oil left in it, so I assume it was about 4.7 that did go into the Jeep.
The reason I asked for the jug back as well was I was expecting some left over, as I knew at the time that the 5 litres is more than the Jeep should take.
All I think is well..the dip stick that is another story.

My oil level, checked after 20mins of driving then sitting about 5 mins with engine off.

Look my oil needs to be changed, but that is 5qts.

Another thing to look at is if your KJ is lifted and your front is higher like for a Frankinlift your engine oil will read high and your trans level will read low from the nose being higher then the rear and the placement of the dipstick for the engine and trans.

I have changed my own oil from the get go, ( purchased new) and mine has looked the same as Troys everytime.
I know its 5 quarts that go in, I know its right since I'm the one doing it.
So after 147,000 miles and 46 oil changes its still right there and will continue to be right there I assume:shrug:
wow 46 oil changes I just really thought about that!:happy175:

^^Ok there must be something different with the dipsticks. I have always changed my own oil/filter and I know I put in 5 qts and mine comes up to the fill mark just above the hash marks on the dipstick.....

(Troy=02, Mudd = 04 and mine is an 05MY.......?)
