tires for stock DD KJ

Most all ATs are very quiet, if you hear them you must have sensitive hearing. Most are so quiet I have to look at the GPS to see if we are going anywhere. :icon_twisted:

and it would have been in caps if I was angry about it

she has got 235/70/16 on now. i thought i had a way figured out to do 2" lift and run my buddy's 265/75/16 but maybe i misread.

edit - looks like 265/70/16 will fit with 2" lift and no rubbing.....but not the 265/75/16. shame i can get all 4 for $240. 1 year old.

Ive got some options still.......

what size is best with a 2.5" daystar kit? I have looked at the reccomended chart at the top of the forum....and i guess i have read too much cuz i am getting confused.

Should be OK with 245-75s
Problem with a Daystar lift is that yes it will give you 2.5 inches but from where? If you are brand new with stock springs then you'll have no problem with 245 75s, plenty of room , but if the springs have sagged say an inch ( which I have seen several that have ) then it maybe a little tighter running them, but still should be pretty good

If you're staying stock I reccomend Goodyear Fortera TripleTred's.
I had them on my 02 KJ and my 92 Buick and never had any problems.
Some even tried talking me out of them but I have been very happy with them and just put them on my 03 KJ.
They are a little pricey but I feel they are worth it.
I got mine for $160 each.

well my local shop doesnt stock the hankook's so the price is higher with the shipping.

did find a really nice Cooper Discoverer ATR for $130.00 each. I can get a discount and rebate on Coopers making them $500 OTD. think im 99% sure going to go get them today.

ill decide on 235/70 or 245/70 when i get there. lol

wish I'd have seen this thread before it was too late. Personally I think most of the recommendations were incorrect for your wife and kids getting around town. Quiet, good in snow, good in rain, long lasting, etc are relative, and you've got a lot of guys here that have aggressive tires. In comparison to top quality all season tires, most all terrains and similar tires fall short, except MAYBE in snow, depending on the tire.

I would have definitely recommended Cooper Discoverer CTS as they are KILLER in rain, very good in snow, super quiet, good handling, and long lasting. Better in all catagories, according to coopers website, except a tick lower in snow. I had them in plenty of snow and they were the best all seasons I've every used on any car or on my jeep.

Next I would have recommended, based on tire rack surveys, my second and third choices back when I had the coopers:

Michelin LTX M/S2
Goodyear Fortera TripleTred
General Grabber HTS

The grabber HTS in particular sounds like it would be perfect for you, due to its high rating all around, and its meager price tag of around $100.

Only reason I post this is for the next guy looking for something for his wife and kids to ride on.

well the cooper ATR's came highly reccomended to me buy several guys at work who have been putting them on their family ride's for a long time. Cooper makes a good tire imo. heck i want the SST's on my XJ next.

they also had good reviews that i read on multiple Jeep specific forums. Ill let her run them and see what she thinks. the ratings in snow/rain/etc all look good.

as far as pics go....this Jeep is soooo dirty I wont let a camera near it. (just road grime...not cool off-road dirty. lol) but soon.

Better than old rubber.

My brother had the michelin at2 on his 99 ram (the heavy as a tank diesel 4x4) and they are great on the street and do ok in the mud.

I have 245/70 Hercules Terra Trac AT. got them from a local dealer for about $125 each with mound and balance, tax and disposal of old ones. they don't rub in normal driving and only a few times backing up. the ride has been good. I have had them almost a year now. they handled the Blizzards last winter very well.

Those look pretty good on there. I've had some Cooper tires in the past and they've been good to me.

Let us know how they work out once y'all get some miles on them. I've got Falken High Country's on mine. Put them on about a year ago. They're just OK, but I'm not blown away with them. I'll probably go to something like your Cooper's, Firestone Destination LE's, or Grabber HTS next round.

well several trips here recently have put some miles on them. they have done great in rain and on long trips. to Pitt Pa already and heading to KY next week.

so far so good.

j-rod, I just put Cooper Discoverer ATRs on ours recently, too. $126 each, everything included. With the small amount of snow we've had so far, they seem to work well.
