going to replace my wifes tires before this winter season. currently has BFG 235/70/16 on it. I know the other factory option is 225/75/16.

Id like to go a little bit bigger without costing mpg loss. this is her DD mommy ride with the kids so nothing aggressive. I have read the thread with the tires seize and required lift to fit. but id like to get some reccomendations on brand/size that gets good mpg and wear life.

Id like to stay in the $400 range for tires.

or a 235/70/16 replacement i can go with as well.

HJ, he is in WV though and you are running that tire in Florida. Think mountains, snow, ice road conditions in winter. I wonder if there is a 100 dollar tire that would be good in all those conditions. TBJ or tjkj or a couple of others might know the best 100 dollar tire as they sold tires.

I've read some of the reviews on tirerack, and it seems like a good choice for snow, probably not as good as an AT.

Look at it like this, any tire is better than the OE stuff he might be replacing.

Look at Firestone Destination ATs, Kumho KL78s, I have ran both and pretty good tires, Mastercraft has some that would work as well. Getting harder to find a good all around tire for 100 but they are out there
go for a 245-70-16 as well, little bigger but will work great

I have been looking and have found BFG AT KO for $450 shipped. Then I have to get M&B

I'm not an expert but here is my two cents:

I put 245/75/16 on my stock KJ with no rubbing, each KJ is a little different in respect to that though.

Here is my tire on the KJ just so you have a visual reference:

You will be fine with 245/70 here is why:

There are a ton of threads and members on this forum reporting that no problems exist putting on the 245/70/16 on their vehicles. Be assured, if there were problems with that set up on stock KJ you would hear about it and would not be advised to do it.

*Additionally if you look at the chart below the difference of the overall diameter between the 235/70 and the 245/70 is .55" inches. It is just over a 1/2" inch larger. The exact overall diameter will vary slightly from one manufacturer to the next.

If you now compare the other stock option of 225/75 compared to the 245/70the overall diameter of the 245/70 is only a difference of .22" larger (less than a 1/4"). If a stock option 225/75 can go on the KJ, a tire with less than a 1/4" larger height would fit with no problems.

The 245/70 tire is wider than the 235/70 by approximately .39" (less than a 1/2") and generally the width+diameter is what causes the rubbing when turning the wheel to full lock on a stock setup (i.e. the 245/75 is approximately 1" larger in diameter than the 245/70 thus could present rubbing issues). Again 245/70/16 have been tested and proved working on the stock KJ with no issues.

just google "tire size calculator" and you will be able to compare all the tire dimensions

225/75/16 (stock) overall diameter: 29.28" section width: 8.85"
235/70/16 (stock) overall diameter: 28.95" section width: 9.25"
245/70/16 overall diameter: 29.50" section width: 9.64"
245/75/16 overall diameter: 30.46" section width: 9.64"
265/75/16 overall diameter: 31.64" section width: 10.43"

*info obtained from www.1010tires.com tire size calculator

Unless it has sagged a bunch 245-70s will fit with just very slight rub when full turn backing up.
I ran the Firestone Destination ATs before I lifted in that size and they were a world better than stock. More than likely better than the BFG ATs

I know my wife was not happy with all
the "funny looks" she got when the MTR's
would rub
As far as size
we got great MPG's running 225/75's
We ran the G/Y ATS in that size and it was
a 6 ply or LR C making it very light

I have the Bridgestone Dueller Revo AT's in 245-70-16 on original, stock suspension with 130,000 miles on the odometer. They do not rub so you can hear it - there is only a slight scuff visible on the front inner fender well.

My wife doesn't notice ;)

re: j-rod

I just put on a set of those Hankooks yesterday in a 245/70/16. $119 ea. They look and ride great on my moabs. A little noisier between 35 and 45 mph, but quiet on the highway.

sorry bro
but if you put noisy and AT's in the same sentence you should loose your Jeep
card if you find AT's noisy then you have no place in a Jeep
I have found only 1 tire to date that I would call loud but not noisy
and that is the Super Swamper LTB

re: J-Thompson

What's up with the tude. I never said noisy was bad. Just letting the original poster know if he is replacing highway tires with the AT's, his wife will hear them.
