My girlfriends KK is entirely black except for the crome grill. Which she wants black. I found some dupli-color paint that matches. I tried this morning to take it off but didnt get very far at all. It seems like there are clips all over the place holding it in.

My question is - Has any one done this before that knows how to take it off, or could give me some pointers?

Just remove the push pins under the hood and grasp the grill down by the headlights and pull. But I don't think painting over the chrome is a good idea, maybe try trading with someone that wants a chrome.

remember the grills are plastic so if you paint them make sure you use paint specifically for plastic. Also you will need to take a scouring pad/fine sand paper to scuff them up for good paint adhesion.

I agree with the other poster that you should trade with someone that wants to have their jeep "chromed" out. It's ashame to ruin the chrome grill. Someone on this board would die to have a chrome grill.

If theres someone up here in Alberta that would be willing to swap a chrome for the black then by all means. I would be painting it in out spray booth at work so i know all the prep work, was just having a real hard time trying to get it out.

I removed the grille from my 08 and it was fairly easy. The hardest part was seperating the black insert from the grille. It was held in tightly by lots of clips. It only takes about 15 minutes to do.

Once I removed mine, I scuffed the paint up and had a friend shoot it with Rhino liner. I really like the was it came out, because it adds contrast to the front.
