The interior lights will not turn off. Even after 15 minutes, when they should automatically, even if a door is open. I also can’t turn them off by rotating the ring on the turn signal stalk. When I bought the Liberty last year, none of the lights would come on when I opened the door, only when I activated them manually. I took the lights apart, and found the wires from the body computer were disconnected. I guess this was a problem from before me. I reconnected the wires, and all was good until now. The FSM says it could be a bad door ajar switch, but if that was true, I should be able to turn them off using the turn signal stalk or they should turn off automatically. Do I have a bad body computer? Has anyone had a problem like this before?

The mulitifuction switch is the turn signal stalk. As you mentioned, even on the stalk the lights wont go off from there.
Even though I would like to say it is the stalk, and make all well again, the BCM does control the interior lights, and the timer is not working if they remain on,which also is on the BCM I believe.
The possibility exists that the stalk is acting like always on, in which case the even the timer would not turn them off I believe.
Have you Consulted the dealer? Ask them if it is listed on their known problems list.
They might be willing to take a return on the stalk and let you try it, considering the circumstances.

Napa has teh multifunction units for about 60 clams

Rock auto has them also.

Had to replace both of mine (02 and 05). Interior lights would come on at random, not turn off at times.

In the FSM, I found a continuity test table for the multi-function switch (turn signal and wiper stalk). I will try that over the weekend. I also found the below diagnose table, and it does not suggest testing the multi-function switch. Strange.

ALL LAMPS IN THE
COURTESY LAMP
CIRCUIT DO NOT
EXTINGUISH 1. Faulty ajar switch. 1. Test and replace a faulty door, tailgate, or lift glass ajar switch as required.
2. Faulty ajar switch sense circuit. 2. Test and repair the shorted ajar switch sense circuit as required.
3. Faulty ground circuit. 3. Test and repair the shorted courtesy lamp driver circuit as required.
4. Faulty Body Control Module (BCM), BCM input, or BCM output. 4. Use a DRBIIIT scan tool to test the BCM, its inputs, and its outputs. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.

Without stating the obvious, its not cos the lights are pressed in is it? If you press on the lens of the light it clicks in and turns that light only on. Sorry, but had to ask. Think simple to start with!! Hehe :D

Yes and the rear cargo light pressed in can also activate full on as well.

I am such a moron. The rear cargo light had been turned on manually. I believe I checked that, twice. Once off, and once back on. I did not know if you turned on the cargo light, all of the interior lights come on. And they do not turn off after 15 minutes. Or maybe I did not reconnect the lights properly.

Thanks Banditsteve and LibertyTC. At first, I thought your comments were lame, but you were right. Always check the simple things first. You guys rock.

Huh, I can't keep my cargo light on...I push it and its lit for about 40 seconds or something then it goes out...sometimes I need it on for 5-10 minutes and its a pain to have to keep pushing it over and over.

Thanx for the back handed compliment. And you are calling us lame? Who pressed the light on??? Hehe. Only messing with you. Glad it was a simple fix. If only everything in life was that easy and cheap eh!! Keep it shiny side up, Steve :D
