I only got 1 key and fob when I bought my key. Does anyone know of the cheapest way to get a new key and fob. I think the dealership wanted to charge 125 for just the key. Any ideas? I know with 2 keys it is easy, but what about with only 1 key

With only one key, programming one yourself is out of the question. What year is your Liberty? If it has the separate key and transmitter, the key is only around $40-$60. If it is the newer style key, with the RKE transmitter built in, they run $125-$145.

It is the seprate key and transmitter. What about programming a fob with only one good fob?

If it is the separate key, it should only be $40-$60 for the key, and another $40 for programming. It will have to be programmed at a dealership or shop with a Chrysler scan tool and access to Chrysler key codes.

For the key you can get it made anywhere that makes keys. That's what I did with my spare wallet key. I was surprised when I bought mine used they had 2 keys and 2 remotes

I have an 04

Then its cheap and easy, if you don't have the transponder key that is? I think that was available on the 04', someone can chime in on that.

Look at the back of your remote, should be a number stamped in it, then go to eBay and search for that.

Here is an example, search for this item # on eBay 300325617700 and you will see one for cheap. Most of them on there go for $10-$15 with shipping.

As already mentioned you can go to any hardware store or even Wal-Mart and have then cut you a key. I chose to get a couple Jeep blanks off eBay, came from a dealer that happens to sell online, and then i took them to the local hardware store and had them cut for $2. You can't tell the difference between them and my original.

I have an 06, with the RKE transmitter built in... I hope I never need one...

Yeah, ditto........that's the key I have also. My KJ is an 05 and I think that is the year they started using "the fat key". I know several guys that have 02-04 KJ's and they do not have the same expensive to replace RKE built into the key crap that I have.

I know a guy with a newer KJ than mine, not sure on the year though, that bought the key/transmitter combo blank off eBay and took it to Wal-Mart to get cut, they have the key cutting machine that does both sides of the key at once and holds it vertically in a cartridge, not like the old key machines at a hardware store where the key has to sit sideways, they were able to cut his no problem. Then he programmed the RKE portion of it following the instructions the eBay seller included with the purchase. Not a problem... But then i don't think his has the transponder key option, just the big fat key with the RKE transmitter built in.

Yeah, you can have a key but, but, when I open the door when locked with the KEY ONLY, the alarm goes off. Every once in a while, my Avenger did the same thing, and I had to unlock the trunk to shut the alarm off. SO, what do you do, when the ALARM goes off; when you unlocked with the KEY? Do you need to double key?

Hmm don't know on that one. I always use the remote, never tried unlocking with the key to see if the alarm would go off.

Hi everyone. I just bought an 04 Liberty at a towing impound auction yesterday. It only came with one key and no remote. Whenever I open the door with the key the alarm goes off! It's very annoying. Can anyone give me advice on how to stop this? I guess I am going to have to take it to a dealership either way because I would like to get another key and a remote also.

Being that its an 04 you can have another key cut anywhere, i'm assuming of course that you don't have the transponder key, the gray key, but to get a remote programmed your going to have to get one and then take it to a dealer for programming since you don't have an exisiting working remote to use to train the new one.

Buy a remote off eBay or elsewhere, LOTS cheaper than one from the dealer.

Try your local locksmith.
I work for one and we are much cheaper than the dealer.

My key (Y159) for my 03 was only $3.50 (non-transponder)
My remote was about $35 and the programming is very simple.
