Well I have finally burned a tank of gas in my 03 KJ. The results for city driving? 21mpg. I have a 5 speed ******. However when I filled up I noticed one of my tires looked low, so I checked the tire pressure. There was about 25 psi in three of the tires and the one that looked low has 14 psi. I hadn't bother checking it when I got it. So I put the recomended 33 psi in each and the spare only had 10psi. So I filled it up as well. I can't wait to see if it boost the mpg even more. I won't know until next week what highway mileage is until I go out of town. Its rated 20/24 so well see. What is an average v6 city mpg?

The tire fill up won't affect MPG that much, but now your Jeep is safer..

21 in town is pretty darn good I think. Probably everyone's average in town for the v6 is 16 or so according to other threads on the topic. Depending on variables. Who is driving, how much traffic, what mods, etc. I am lucky to get 20-21 highway. There is no city driving/traffic around here. We only got 2 traffic lights. So it is hard for me to get into real city traffic unless I go downstate to Albany or something.

HJ, I think the mpg might noticably improve with the tires aired up. They were pretty low he said ranging from 14-25 pounds.

airing the tires up will increase MPG's.. especially that low, the benefits will be noticeable I reckon.. less rolling resistance. ever tried to ride a bike with a low tire, versus a properly filled one? I did lol, was much easier with the proper pressure.

let us know!

I get an average of 14 with the mods listed in sig. after I removed the roof mounted lights. But I do live in the hills of WV.

My 3.7L gets an average of 17-18 MPG combined in town, city, and highway driving. In town only, I get about 16. In city only, about 14.5ish.

Yeah, but almost everyday I find myself saying "I wish I bought the v6." The lil 4 ****** just doesnt have the power needed around here. I am haveing to drop to 3rd gear to stay above 50 on some of the hills on the interstates(even without the lift). And offroad 4HI is useless.
There are some areas in town I avoid cause the Jeep doesnt have the power to take off on steep hills with out majorly slipping the clutch.
As soon as I finish rebuilding the motor in my Sunfire, I am gonna look at building the motor out of the KJ and possibly turboing it.

I would love to see this :D
I wish the 3.7 could handle a supercharger, or a turbo setup...

From what little research i have done so far, the 2.4l that is the kj is the same as is used in several fwd dodge products(i.e. stratus and such) and are swapped into neons regularly. However with a turbo the powerband is in the wrong end of the rpm band for an offroader. Unless you use a smaller turbo that spools up at a very low rpm then, top end can suffer giving a power band that starts steep then levels off.
I am still of the mind that I'd be better off staying n/a. However I am finding that most of the builds that i am finding online still dont make much power down low where id need it but at higher rpms.
Again I have not done a lot of research on this yet.

The 2.4L is exactly the same. So your research led you in the right direction. :)

the srt4 motor is stout from what abuse I put on one and torque was flat from 2,500 til something like 5,500 and boost started around 1,600-2,000.

How many miles does your 2.4 have? Any problems? I wanted the 2.4 vs. 3.7 for the fuel economy, it's a Jeep I know, but still. I somewhat wished I would have looked for a deal on a CRD like I found on mine. I like the 2.4 in general for what it is my only complaint is that with the A/C running (90^ish here in Alabama) the Liberty just seems so freaking bogged down with take offs and low speed driving. I find myself turning it off at red lights to make the take off smoother and more powerful. I swear it cuts power by 1/3 lol.

I have a 05 with the 2.4 engine and a 6 speed and I get 20-21 MPG in the hills of Central West Virginia. It does ok on the hills as long as you keep the RPMs up but it does take bit of downshifting as well. I have 96 k on the odometer. There are times when I even pass other vehicles Yee Haw.
If I want to go fast I take my Corvette out....

I still can't find how to paste someone eles quote first but not to worry.
I also have the 2.4 petrol and yes it sometimes feels gutless with the air con on.
It's my first Jeep and when I first got it, I thought it had a misfire in the rain. It took me about a month to realise that when you set the vents to de-mist the screen, the air con kicks in!! Doh!! But yes it is gutless but I think they come with 15 inch steel rims as standard and the previous owner had the 16 inch alloys put on which obviously alters the gearing which doen't help either I don't think. I was thinking of getting slightly lower profile tyres next time to compensate. And with regard to the fuel consumption, mine averages out about 17 or 18 mpg. Apart from when I was touring round Europe in it 2 years ago and on the Autobahns in Germany, (no speed limit) my wife and I, full of luggage, air con on and wrong side of 100 mph = 11 mpg! It was worth it just to pass police cars though!! :D
