Road hazard package, that red box, is it? :)
I think it looks pretty good, and you need a really sharp knife to cut it up smoothly, looks like you did a good job, waiting for the results.

Congratulations, I checked the videos on youtube, that dude with a funny old lady's hat is an oddity! But he did a good job with his refoam work. :)

For now, I am waiting for my sub to arrive, until then I turned off the bass completely and somehow managed to give all sound to the tweeters, very little coming out of door speakers using head units's on board low pass filters..

The set came with two foams right? Did you have enough glue left to fix the 2nd speaker if it goes dead later?

Stock premium sound system is very underrated. (at least with an aftermarket stereo)

Great thread. I replaced my front passenger woofer surround with your write-up. Did yours come with the cd? I think I got the same kit but as I glued the outer edge of the surround while wired up,

I played the cd at a low volume to realign the cone as the glue was drying.

With just a damp brush, I also went over the surround to clean off excess glue (to keep the glue from drying out the surround?)

I was surprised at how easy it was and that it restored good sound quality.

No problem. This thread was EXACTLY what I was looking for, and just wanted to add to the simplicity of it.

I've been further testing the speaker and realized it has significantly increased the amount of bass. It's not the clearest (what factory speakers are?) but it kicks a lot tighter than before.

What size diameter are the dash speakers? Those may be next for mine as well.

Does anyone even know the specs of stock system, or at least wattage? Are the amps like 25w each making it 50w, I feel like the speakers are putting cap on what amps can put out.

This is an old thread, but I found it today looking for a solution to the degenerated left front door speaker in my daughters 2004 Liberty. The foam had separated just a little more than 3/4 of the way around the outer edge, where the foam meets the speaker frame. It was still attached to the cone all around.

I contemplated buying the foam repair rings from Ebay, but thought instead of another solution. I'm using aquarium silicone sealant (3 oz.) to fill in the gap between the outer frame support edge and the foam edge. I worked in stages about 2" at a time and used the flat end of a zip tie to force it into the slot and smooth it out as I went. The silicone will seal the foam to the outer wall if the frame and will remain slightly pliable as the speaker vibrates.

I doubt the audio qualities will be stellar, but for the cost of some silicone I think this will repair the speaker and get us down the road so to speak. As it was, the speaker was absolutely useless due to the popping sounds it made with the loose foam. So anything is going to be better than that.

Here's a few pictures of the speaker after the silicone was applied.

I'll re-post an update tomorrow concerning sound quality.

Update: The speaker has a new life!

Mid range on up it sounds like new. The low end bass however is seriously decreased on this speaker due to the limited cone travel. This is what I expected before I decided to add the silicone. I'd say compared to the other side it is about 60% less. There is still a thumping sound coming out, but it's not as nice as the other side.

It's not a problem though because it sounds 100% better than the popping sound it had before. My daughter is happy now and even happier that she didn't have to spend her money to solve the problem.

I wish the pictures had stayed up with the original post! I bet more and more speakers are failing, so people (like me) will be clambouring for this solution!
I guess I'll wing it for now, but if anyone has the original pictures saved, would you be so kind as to put them up again for me?

Thanks for the write up, everyone! Great work!
