Got in an accident today while heading to a 4th of July party. Some idiot decided to turn and dart in front of me when I was going full speed straight through a green light. All the damage occured on the right front of my Jeep. The right front wheel is pretty messed up and the plastic fender was completely ripped off. Also the right front of the hood is bent down and the right front lights were destroyed. Looks like it can be repaired tho.

The Windstar that ran in front of me was in worse shape tho and I caused it to spin around.

The bad thing is that even tho it was clearly his fault the cop didn't find anybody at fault since there were no witnesses. I can't believe that nobody else stopped. That's pretty messed up. I guess it's time for the insurance companies to duke it out.

Why did this have to happen on the 4th of July?

If you had a green light and his was red, it should've been easy for the cop to determine you weren't at fault. That ***** :( Hopefully if there are traffic cameras at the intersection they'll be able to see he was clearly being an idiot.

Give your Jeep get well kisses!

Why would it be locked in the tow guy's lot?
Your insurance company should take care of transportation of the Jeep and reimburse you for a rental.

TigerClaws I was actually secretly hoping that it was totaled so I could do that, but I think it's fixable.

TBJ just thought it would be best to keep it in the lot till Tuesday since my insurance company is shut till then. They only pay $25 towards towing. I'll have to see if I can get a rental. It would be cool to have a 4X4 jeep for a week :D

The real problem today is cops take the easy route in all accident investigations. Some see it as the cops being lazy, but the real issue is the mountain of paper and computer work involved. The rules of investigating and writing up an accident report has gotten so complicated, time consuming and burdensome, and in the end the insurance companies write it off as a "No Fault" anyway. It's much easier for the investigating officer to just list it as a "No Fault" accident, he can still write either one of you a ticket for careless driving if the evidence clearly points to wrong doing, but even that requires him to appear in court if the receiving party contests the summons.

Note:.... This is all based on New Jersey traffic law, and not the laws of other states. I work closely with law enforcement, and respond to several motor vehicle accidents a year as a professional Fire Fighter / EMT. I also just dealt with my own son's accident that was very similar to this one.

do you have a Cell phone with a camera built in? My insurance agent tipped me off to this as a good tool in collecting info at an accident. since you are likely to have it on you use it if in an acident. use it to take pics of the damage and of where cars are before they are moved if possable.
