Ok, since I don't have them, I have been looking for them. Is there a reason the Mopar locks are so expensive compared to others I've seen? Is it because the match the stock lugs better? I've considered changing all my lugs w/matching aftermarket locks instead of paying the $40+ for the Mopars. Another question is how does someone protect their spare from theft if all the Mopar locks have the same pattern and if another jeep owner wanted to lift a spare how are you protected? Inquiry minds wanna know.

I vote to go aftermarket. Your stock lugs are probably just going to rust/break/fall off anyways - they're just covers. For the cost, you're better off just spending the money on the aftermarket set which, 99% of the time, will be better quality.

I got mine for $25 shipped from sprsonic, he is a member here. They were sealed in the package still.

A while back he had quite a few of these, but havent seen him post in a good while (he sells other parts too).

i bought some wheel locks a while ago from amazon. they are supposed to have a unique key for each set and you can register online with the key id number and if you ever need a new key you can order a new one.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000COMX3Q/ref=oss_product

just if you do get some when you are using the key to tighten it back up, remember to take the wheel lock key off the wheel before you pull away. thankfully i found mine :)

My dealer told me the Mopar locking lugs were McGuard?

^^^ Mine said the same thing ... but I bought them just got tired of hunting for them. The reason they are overpriced is the same reason every "official" product is overpriced, because you can't (legally) get them (new) anywhere else.

It's a sanctioned mini monopoly thing :D

P.S. Are you suggesting a fellow Mopar person would steal my rims!?! ... ;)

Avoid locks unless you live in a place that looks like 1985 from Back to the Future 2 under Biff's regime.
My nut broke when I was trying to get it off when I had a flat, just chipped a little piece off and it would not grab anymore, this cost me $105, tow+remove+some A-Hole banging on my wheel with a hammer, luckily I had AAA to reimburse me some of it, but I lost 2hrs of my day, whereas without the locks it would have been 15 minute swap.

Seeing how easy for them to remove the chipped locking nut, if they want those wheels, there is nothing that will stop them only frustrate or slow them down.

$40.00 is expensive for "MOPAR" labelled Mc Guard lock lug nuts?
Good thing you don't live in Canada then!

The "MOPAR" labelled Mc Guard lock lug nuts have many many different
"Combinations" (Or unique "lock" shapes and corresponding keys.)
So theft using a lug nut key, although possible; is unlikely!
A theif would more likely just snap off the one lug with the locking lug nut on it!

They are Mcgard. I took mine off, since it seemed to be a pain in the ace getting the stupid key out every time I took off the wheels. They don't say Mopar on them either. I think the package says Mopar on them if you do get them from the dealer. If you find McGard ones anywhere, they are the same thing.

I only lock my spare with a single MGuard locking nut because I live in Atlantic Canada in a low crime area. If I hear a noise in the driveway it's just a raccoon trying to get into my garbage. And they're for a good stew & a hat :p

If you're concerned about wheel theft, there is an alternative.
Advanced Auto sells lug nut kits that require a special insert to turn them, the impact grade insert comes with the kit. I've seen a couple different varieties, they look unique and the only way some one else would have that insert is if they spent the 30 bucks on the same lug nut kit.
Just keep the insert with the Jeep in case you get a flat on the highway....

Back when ThunderbirdJunkie worked at the Chrysler dealership, we had 3 new, un-PDI'd TJ Rubicons' wheels stolen.

All 5, on each Jeep.

Jeeps with outside-mounted spares come from the factory with a locking lug on the spare. Didn't stop the thieves, did it?

Thank you all for some very helpful info. I don't have a locking lug on my spare and that is the one I am thinking of getting it for. I have the hard plastic "Jeep" spare tire cover and was thinking of removing it because it has a crack but I'm always afraid to come out of a store or after work and notice my spare missing.

Agreed TBJ!

We drive by ICBC (Our Provincial vehicle insurance corporation) vehicle holding yard almost everyday and you would be surprised how many vehicles you see sitting there that have been "Rocked" and left sitting on their brake rotors/drums!
Mostly Honda's mind you!
But all other makes and models as well!

I guess that's why ICBC/RCMP invented the "Bait cars" that most law enforcement agencies now use throughout North America!

I've got a story that would suggest it is always possible.
Mid eighties small town (pop 6000) Canada ... 1982 Chevette with the cheapest steel wheels on the planet and even cheaper tires.... behind a restaurant overnight... next morning up on blocks all 4 tires gone ...lol

Mom was even happier when she found out her rims and wheels would be held as evidence for about a year
