same thing happened with mine a few days ago with that god awful noise. today my ac clutch seized up. yanked the pulley and rerouted a shorter (82.5 inch--normal is 87.5) serpentine belt.
Our KJ's Air conditioning has packed it in!

Update!
Well, Jen brought the KJ back to the dealership on Monday to have the
condenser replaced.
Fortunately there was nothing wrong with the A/C compressor.
I also requested an alignment due to the fact that I knocked the front end
out of wack!
All in $851.27 out the door.
But what really got me?
The mechanic replaced the dull, sun faded front hood mounted "Jeep"
emblem with a brand new shiny one free of charge!

That is great that you now having working AC for the summer again.
Two thumbs up for that dealer, you now have a shiny new emblem!
Now all you need to do is get that KJ all shiny to match the emblem, with some HJ wax treatments!
