That's the insulation between the transmission/transfercase and the floor right? It holds moisture against the floor, traps dirt, gets crusty. hangs everywhere when it gets a little beat up. It's probably suppose to insulate the passenger compartment from road noise, heat, et al..... Mine was unceremoniously removed a while back. Rip it out, you won't miss it.

Yes, that is what it is...So it will not be as quiet as a lexus anymore if I take it out!!;)

Since the more I cut, more keeps coming down I guess it will be gone next week-end. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't burn a hole in my shoes while driving.

ya, its for heat and noise insulation,, might even serve a fire retardent purpose like the crap inside of the hood..

if you didnt know.. that black matt under your hood is designed to break free of the hood and drop down onto the engine to attempt to supress a fire...

Well I guess my engine is a goner if it catches on fire since I took mine out a few years ago...

I've never noticed the insulation above the t-case area, may have to see if mine even has it.
