Im sure it wil buff out too.lol.
the wheel hole is fine (so far) , just looks like shit.
oh well. u live , u learn. think i will use it as a (covered) spare.

Hey dude, most of us have been there in one way or another. You think I came up with that schedule out of whole cloth? Nope, it's been personal experience that helped me with that. Good luck on your lug/stud replacement.

id say as long as the surface the lug mates to is intact that you wouldnt have to worry about the wheel structurally... but if its messed up id worry a bit.. im sure the others will chime in about this ( please do)

Anytime I deal with a messed up lugnut i just drill the lug stud out. if the cap is still on it or it is a solid nut, just start in the center and drill till it comes off then replace it. no wheel damage.

Thats an easy fix, get a big ass drill and bit and carefully drill the rest of the lug out. Once the lug is drilled off hammer the stud out of the axle. The new stud can be pulled through by putting the lug nut on and tightening it up. As for the wheel id say the hell with it. At most id smooth the chisel marks with a dremel and dab some some silver paint in there. No one will ever notice it but you.

thanks guys, tried the drill idea. bought cobalt bits,good thing on sale for 17$, regular 70$, whew. good thing , im gonna need my money for other things, like buying a wheel.
wasnt succesfull with drill bits, with a decent drill,started small but by the time i got up to 5/16" bit i was having trouble. bit not biting,tried slow,with oil,but no go.
so im resigned to putting a torch to it at the expense of a wheel and $150 to replace it with a used wheel from the wreckers.

Call a tire shop and ask who they use to repair wheels. This may be repaired.
I got a wheel damaged once and the wheel was repaired perfectly.

I am new to the forum as I was looking for wheel advice on google and got routed to this forum. I had a similar experience but much worse. I had a flat tire and attempted to use an 18 volt snap on impact to remove my lug nuts and had it snap the nut leaving the conical portion on the stud:wtf2:. After trying to "tap" it off with a hammer and chisel with no luck, I had to cut the wheel from the hub with an oxy acetylene torch, not to mention I was almost 200 miles away from home and in a the only shop in the small southern town is was in. I will be pressing a new stud in, and getting a set of Cragar soft 8s and steel lug nuts to avoid this in the future.

First off this thread is a few years old. Second, you cut your whole wheel off? How did you have access to an oxy acetylene torch but not the tools to remove the lug nut? I did have two lugs turn to butter on the studs before, but luckily a tire shop was able to extract them after breaking 3 breaker bars and several other tools. I never knew I was so strong when i rotated the tires before!

I got the same problem. Except I have the steel wheels. I tried everything except drilling the stud. I didn't think of that, until I tried cutting the lugs and nut off. Now I got a real mess. Still can't get my wheel off. Those stupid cheap wheel nuts with the beauty covers. I'm done with them! I bought 20 new solid wheel nuts. But still stuck getting my wheel off. I broke two ratchet wrenches, 3 sockets. I tried the "nut extractors" and they just rounded the nuts even worse. Paid $20 for a gorilla socket, that was a joke! I need a blowtorch now! Do yourself a favor, and replace your lug nuts with solid steel quality nuts, before you get a flat, in the middle of nowhere, you will be happy you did!

That's even worse than mine. I was taking the wheel off so I could change the upper control arm and lower ball joint when one of the chrome caps came off of the lug. Well you know how it progresses from there. I actually took it to a local tire shop thinking they would have a special tool to remove the lug but it turns out they only had a tool with an air chisel. Ended up having my brother drill out the stud. I feel for you.

p.s. I didn't realize this thread was so old :)

I've drilled out dozens over the years. All that's required is a good low speed hand drill, 3 graduated bit sizes (it's easier to drill a small, deep hole than a larger one, then enlarge it, then go for the actual size of the stud) and patience. Unless you're drilling because the stud is loose and turning in the hub, then a socket held with vise grips to keep it from spinning.
