i picked up a set of aluminum look steering wheel controls. they came with the buttons that are on the underside of the steering wheel for the radio volume and stations. mine did not have that feature. i dremmeled out the holes to install, and it seemed like a very simple plug-and-play. but no go... the top side cruise functions work as they did before... but the new underside radio controls don't. anyone know if there is a work around or fix?

TIA

You didn't have the radio controls beforehand?

Hopefully SirSam chimes in on this one, since he seems to know a great deal about doing this.

Don't think the plugs are there on the radio from the factory. Could be wrong, though, having never done this.

Check your clockspring. Although KJs came with the necessary wiring for all four sets of buttons, there were two different clocksprings: one with and one without radio controls. IIRC, the model for radio controls only has one more pin (6 vs. 5, but it's been a while.) Just check the number of wires you have and see if there's a corresponding pin for each in both sides of the clockspring.

I put a part number in the HOWTO from when I did it.

yup...my clockspring is showing 3 prongs... the new connection is looking for 5.... now i have to decide if i want to take another gamble and invest in the clockspring.

It wouldn't be a gamble. Just larceny from the dealership. As long as the wires are there on both sides, you're good to go. The factory HU won't need any kind of adapter for factory controls. An aftermarket HU would need a "translator box" spliced in.

just for knowledge sake here.

At least on the 06 there are only two clock springs available and they are both 10 ckt. So its plug and play with the switches. Early GC switches will not work. May look the same, but mount differently. Same goes for the CC switches, look the same but...... are 2 pin vs 3 pin on the 06

Now a steering wheel from an 04 will not interchange with the 06. The clock springs are different in execution. Clearance wise on the back of the wheel center .

HU = headunit = radio
the "translator box" I talked about is a module that translates the Jeep's steering wheel signals into signals that an aftermarket (not stock or OEM) radio would understand. If you're using your stock radio, you wouldn't need it.
