recently my 2002 3.7 liberty has been acting wierd.
whenever i go to slow down and press on the brakes, the rpms will go all the way to around 200 or 400 rmps. sometimes it will rev back without be pressing anything, but most the time it will just die. it starts back up just fine to.
thanks

Do you have a check engine light after this happens?, if so we could use the codes.
So when you take you foot of the gas to slow down the rpm's are normal. Only when you apply the brakes do the rpm's drop and it stalls correct?
I am temped to say the idle air control could be the problem, but a vacuum leak, through line or brake booster could also be suspect.
Also try with vehicle running but in park, apply the brakes keep them on, and then turn off the jeep and hold brakes for 30 seconds, it should not drop any further does it drop any?

Yup...Carbon by-products in the IAC valve are not friendly, neither is British Petroleum's valve.
I think the world needs electric cars and soon.
Good name for this header "Stalls and Dies"

there is but its just 0500 for speed sensor( the speedometer doesn't work but im working on that) really its only when im coming to stop or slow down from any speed above 20 mph.

Does it seem like the Jeep is trying to lurch at all as you're nearing a stop or while stopped? I would try throwing it in neutral as you're coming up to a stop to see if it still happens. Also try turning off OD and see if it still happens. It could be a variety of things but I was having similar issues and it was the torque converter not unlocking.

Sounds like the classic dirty IAC problem to me. That would be where i would start, clean it out and see if it helps, it might not as they do just wear out, but that would be the first step. If cleaning doesn't help replace it, they aren't that expensive compared to trying other things to troubleshoot.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!

That is why it is stalling, fix the speedo issue and the stalling will go away. It's not a IAC problem in your case, well it is but the IAC can not function correctly without the PCM knowing how fast your going or decelerating.

Another reason why the speedo is so important on newer vehicles, directly effects how the engines runs and trans shifts.
