My wife is looking to purchase a new vehicle as her lease will be ending soon. Since I drive a small 4 door sedan we are leaning towards purchasing a small to midsize SUV that would provide us with more utility for camping trips, etc.

Anyways, I have a friend who is a salesman and her company car is going on sale as they are turning their sales fleet over. Her car is a 2008 Jeep Liberty SPort (silver) with 73,000 miles and will be selling for $9,200. We know the Jeep has been taken care of and is in good condition and that most of her driving is highway.

Is this a good deal...should we be worried about any reliability issues? We didn't want to purchase new as we would like to pay cash. I thought that this looks like a good deal and meets our critera for a vehicle that will provide us with more utility than my car does. Plus we live in upstate NY which is snow country.

THanks in advance

Sounds like a good deal.

Where in Up-State are you? Near Saratoga by chance?

Sounds like a good deal! That's how I got mine... was a sales person's company car at work. If I had more money I would have bought a couple and flipped them, the prices were that good.

I haven't looked at KBB, but $9200 seems very high for a KK with 73,000 miles on it...

EDIT*** I guess I was wrong... KBB puts its value at 12,500

I am very tempted to do just that...I could get my hands on two of them for the same price, condition and mileage. Plus I know the people that have been driving them and they are all highway miles.

If I could get at least $12,000 for one of them then it would totally be worth it. We will see if I can convince my wife that we should purchase 2 in order to sell one for a profit of roughly $2,000.

Maintenance records. If it doesn't have those, it's not worth 5 grand ITBJHO.

I have every detail from day one...there wasn't a missed oil change or tire rotation. THe recommended maintence schedule was followed to the T as it is required by the company or they get their pay docked.

Also, brand new tires were just placed on them.

Any update? Please tell me you bought it!

Yes we did...we actually got to test drive it first and it was in perfect condition and drove great. I was wrong about the price though and mileage though...It actually only had 60,000 miles on it (not 70,000+) and was $8,600(not $9,300)...so we got an even better deal than expected.

Now we are just waiting for the person to get their new company car (going to a Ford Fusion) before we can get deliver of the Jeep. Should be within a few weeks and we can't wait. The funny thing is I drive a 2009 Infiniti g35x (roughly a $35,000+ vehicle) and I'm looking forward to driving this car more than mine. We already have a few camping and hiking trips planned this summer so the jeep will definately come in handy.

Now we are debating on buying another for around $9,000 and selling for around $12,000 to $13,000.

Congratulations! I had the same problem with mine, the waiting drove me nuts, and I think it took a month to get it. They kept saying "any day now"... for weeks... ;)

As I mentioned earlier I have been debating on purchasing a second 2008 Jeep liberty sport 4wd vehicle and selling it for hopefully a profit.

Well the vehicle I have my eye on has 40,400 miles and I can buy it for $10,300. Do you think I could easily sell it for at least $13,500? Do you think it would be worth the hassle? Kelly Blue Book says it is worth $16,000...how reliable is KBB? (FYI...I have the detailed maitence report on this vehicle as well.)

Sorry for all of the questions but I just want to make sure I am not overlooking something as $10,000 is a decent investment and I would hate to go through all the trouble of selling it and not make any money.
