Why don't florida jeeps get recalled too?
I mean, the only time the salt belt region gets salt is during winter, right?
I get to deal with salty air 24/7/365...

Your ocean-air salt doesn't eat metal quite like winter road salt does...

You guys realize what's happening, right?
[rant]
A government agency (the NHTSA) is forcing Chrysler to recall an EIGHT YEAR OLD VEHICLE for something that should be replaced as a regular wear item.
This is NO DIFFERENT than if they forced them to replace ALL the clutches in SRT4s ever built.
This is a bunch of ********, and the NHTSA was the first step in Gov't control over business.
We are paying for potential recalls when we buy a new car. The cost of any potential recalls are rolled into the purchase price.
How does that make you feel?

Tjunkie, I hear ya. With all this stuff going on with Toyota, I'm sure the NHTSA isn't taking any chances.

I don't agree with the government intervention in business- I think it's downright communist behaviour (my opinion.) But I will take advantage of the recall anyway.

That recall was 1st issued over a year ago well before the toyota crap.

I personally would like to know how many of those complaints that lead to this recall came from lifted KJ's.I know I ratted out one guy that complained to them,I personally called them and gave his real name and vehicle and his complaint#(which he was dumb enough to post). If you file a claim and your lifted it is called fraud, plain and simple. If your lifted and fall under this recall and actually have them replaced your also committing fraud.

Recalls

How does one find out if any of the recalls have been done on your vehicle if you are not the original owner.. ????
Thanks in advance

You know all of the ball joint mess should have replaced under warranty once, with one that has a zerk fitting!!! Simple solution, Chrysler could have ordered the Moog's.
I am sure some have had their BJ's replaced more that once.
I wonder if my 04 will qualify next year...??

Like TBJ said,the OEM LBJ's(and UCA's) are MOOG's,so they did order MOOG's:D.

The Chrysler replacements are MOOG with a zerk fitting?
Mine have been replaced under warranty, but do not have a zerk fitting!

No. What they are saying is that the FACTORY balljoints and the RECALL REPLACEMENTS are both made by Moog. Moog is an automotive supplier, who just so happen to specialize in ball joints. Chrysler went to Moog with a design, said "Make This", and they made it.

They are just NOT the same K3199 replacements with the zerk fitting.

Considering the labour to replace the ball joints, why would Chrysler not then use the K3199 with the zerk fitting, besides the difference of a few dollars? Actually NHTSA should have mandated the necessity for a zerk fitting. Makes no sense to have potential accidents due to failures caused by metal on metal wear, due to lack of grease.
Is the K3199 that much better quality or is it just a zerk fitting added? Either way this should look bad on Chrysler to continue to install the ball joints with out a grease fitting. I guess common sense does not apply across the spectrum.

Actually they are,the OEM non-greaseable LBJ's for a KJ are also MOOG part# K3199.

The difference is about $40 in price for the grease zerk MOOG.Times that by about 1 million and you'd get a good reason why.

I just checked the jeep site and my kj is under the recall. I was hoping to get my lift installed soon, should I have them replace the UCA's before I put the lift on?
