It depends, the sales guy the sold me the Land Rover at a Dodge dealer told me "I don't know shit about this one....so I can't say much about it, other than we changed the oil on it, and it came in yesterday." Most sales people I've dealt with were good and honest.

The problem isn't that they're liars, it's that they don't know shit.

I totally agree.

Several years ago when I was miserably married, my Xspouse and I decided we wanted a minivan. Tha sales guy flat out told us that nowadays most folks research the crap out of their target vehicle, much thanks to the interwebz, and in fact the customer knows more about a specific mark or model than the salesman does. The sales guy may have a broad understanding of a complete vehicle line but the sales guy is no way a specialist in certain models. x58765987534 for used sales guys. Last time I bought a vehicle, my KJ, I walked right past the sales guy to the managers office. When he said a sales guy would be happy to help me I replied that said sales guy is just going to come and ask you all the tough questions anyways. So... I cut out the middleman.

Well I've been trying to make a deal with a Jeep Dealership on a JK or WK... I can't decide just yet.. the WK is an 09 Laredo 4x4, and the JK is a 10 Sahara Unlimited... I decided to tell them to stuff that Liberty up their ass..

LBL,

Hold off on a WK for a couple months.. The new Grand Cherokee's are running around up here on the streets of Detroit. I would imagine that in September, the WK prices will bottom out in anticipation of the new Grand.

I'm a salesman and that is my kind of swag.

I'm a computer guy...and if I don't know a certain connection (because there are millions of connections out there, some proprietary) or a certain code i'll look it up...and if I can't find it I flat out tell the client they've stumped me and someone else might know the answer.

You have to go in with that I do not know but I will try to find out for you mentality, because people would not be pleased if you just said "I don't know...."

Most of the dealer salesmen I have met (and there have been a lot) were honest and helpful.

Too many people think sales is a cheat.

ThunderbirdJunkie has been in sales through most portions of his working life. Most of the car salesmen he's come across are slimeballs.

Everybody else is pretty cool though.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
they only care about making money
Don't you care about making money and being able to paying your bills? Not that I'm defending car salesman but that is there job and are on commission only, they are trained to run around the truth and be deceitful, they don't necessarily flatout lie they just tell you what you want to hear, just like lawyers and head shrinks.

I've never met a truly honest salesman(for any product),they are there to do a job and will sell the product as best as they can since there paycheck depends on it.
