Back in 2005, I needed a vehical badly, I was driving an 79' Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale 2dr. This thing sucked, It had no A/C or heater, Got about 12 miles to the gallon, and smelled like a 26 year old car.

I find this beautiful 02' Liberty setting at my local bank (a repo ), 48,021 miles, looked great except for my rusted factory steels. It looked like someone had used some kind of harsh cleaner on the wheels then blasted the paint off with a high pressure wash. Got it for $12,999; drove it away the next day.

Some time passes (sept. 07') and the ol' Jeep kinda lost her go-go. It was not hitting on the first 2 cylinders on the driver side. (1, 3 i think) Took her to 2 shops and 1 dealership with quotes from $2800 up to $8600. ($8600 will buy you a new chrysler 3.7 long block *installed*) Ended up buying a rebuild motor out of New Jersey off Ebay($2100 long block /w core exchange *free shipping*). The 'friend' that was putting this in for me took several months, the motor was at his house from October 28th till December 13th, When the Jeep finally would hold a steady idol.

I've since put some none rusted wheels, pulled a few tricks under the hood, and you can really fall in love with these trucks. They are a blast to drive, and if I had to buy another motor, I would.

Thanks for giving me a place to tell that terrible story.
(all is well that ends well)

Valves, one bent, one jammed. No one I could find would do the head work. They said it was to difficult to reseat the head after removal... I need a german technician I guess. =) The rebuilt one is running very strong though. Still wanting that K&N cold kit. but I'll need to stop spending so much on this thing here soon.

There is a crappy picture, My photo guy will have mine edited by tomorrow. I'll have much better ones then (note: I still haven't spent 10 minutes to install clear turn-signals)

Still having issues with the CV's but planning on having this baby full functioning 4x4, front recovery points, lifted and back on steel wheels by spring.

As far as armor goes, would you say the transmission pan is more important than the gas tank? Its tough to choose to cover one and not the other, either one gets a hole, you're not making it back out..

Another question does the command trac transfer case just bolt up with no mods where my select trac was? If so, I would consider this before any armor or lift. I know the only difference i can think of is getting the light/wire to the dash cluster for the 'full time' light. I'm worried i would have to change things out like the lever, and mounting brackets. If so, I'll just keep that stupid transfer case..

(should have got a full timer..)

I just got off the phone with my banker. I only owe $1276.83 and this baby is 100% mine!

5 more payments, August pay-off, just in time to go to Quakecon. Cant wait! I'm going to continue over-paying, this is going to be a 6 month early pay-off from the original date of the loan.

Then I will have an extra $260 buck a month to save for an ARB, Liftkit, ****** armor, and some M/T tires. =)

Ok, to wet today.. Wax later this week, or probably next weekend.

But the claybar alone made such a difference.

So, I will sum this up as follows

Jeep Liberty + Liability only insurance (19yo fiance/high rates) - traction (ice storm) + 15mph snow plow + bridge - driver awareness = dead libby. the fiance is ok after a few days, only a little pain when moving her arm.

now about 9 days later, our second car, a FORD... has quit running.

new job + moving + loss of vehicals = near mental breakdown.

so the bright side i guess is that now i get to go pick out a limited or a renegade.. but i really did like mine.

some picks of the aftermath to come. I honestly cant even afford to get it out of impound. I'm going to just strip it and let that over-priced jerk keep it. sitting on brake drums. :D (he wanted $425 the second day + $16.50 per day.)

Good by 'Black Betty' You will be sorely missed.
