I bought a couple sets today and was curious if anyone has installed some on their jeep? I've got a good idea where I want to mount them, but figured I'd check and see what others had done.

I'd probably say put one behind the front tire facing towards the rear tire and put one in front of the rear facing the front tire be sure you give them some protection though because rocks get slung up in that area constantly and would probably break those lenses with ease

I'd like them to shine in front of the tires or at least directly on top the tires so the light is mostly in front of the them anyway. Having chopped my front end up, the front won't be an issue for mounting. The rear I am debating on mounting on the cross member for my rock rails aimed back towards the tires. Or, above the rear tires, tucked in the wheel wells.

I have gone through 2 sets of 4 and decided that after busting them up with flying
"stuff" I will just simply not wheel at night

Wheeling at night is too fun too give it up.

I think I decided on where they will mount. One set in front of the front tires, mounted to the front crossmber or side of the unibody. The rear set will mount the unibody frame-rail and will shine behind the rear tires. Should work out nicely. Now I just need to decide where I will mount the switches.

I figure that when I go to install rock lights for the front,
I'll mount them in between the front fender and fender liner.
Cut a hole in the inner fender liner (about 20 % larger than the
"rock" light itself so that the light beam pattern does not get
obstructed by the inner fenders plastic)
and then rivet a triple thickness piece clear of "pop" bottle plastic
over the "hole" in the inner fender itself.
Creating a "window" for the light to shine through.
That way no matter what hits the inner fender/plastic "window" that
covers the "rock" light, will not get damaged.

As far as the rear of the Jeep...
I'll make a 3/8" "stand off" (3/8 evazote foam)that fits between the rock
light lens and a plastic lens/ cover which can take the abuse.

As far as mounting the rear lights, I figure mounting them to the rear axle
and aiming them so they light up just in front of the rear tires.

In the front, I mounted mine in the little pocket that the unibody shape makes where the horn goes in its stock location. Since I don't have any plastic fender liners up front the installation was easy and straight forward. The lights point right in front of the front tires. For the rear I ran the wires through the frame rails all the way front to back. There is an oval shaped hole in the frame rails right above the mounting points for a hitch. I ran the wires to that hole and then mounted the lights so they illuminated right behind the rear tires. The plastic fender lining will add some protection to them. They turned out great and for $40, it couldn't be much better.

Those are both brands I looked at but in the end I didn't want to spend that much. The ones I got from Walmart work great so far and they are stinking cheap so if I bust em, no big loss.

Inc, very nice. What kind of wattage are we talking about? Are they incandescent? halogens? LED?

Are they bright enough to see well?

I wired them to my stock fog light switch which was no longer being used. I ran the wires through the frame rails front to back and wired each side together instead of front ones together and rear ones together.
They will really help to see better when wheeling at night. :D

Those look just like the "Platinum Burners" I bought at Wally World for $15.00 a pair South of the border!

Just think, those same lights here in B.C. retail for $89.99 a pair!

Harbor Freight has some great cheap lights that work well also , lots of people I know use them, can get them on sale for 5 to 7 bucks each some time, 55 watt and if you want more light, aircraft landing lights fit in as well ;)

Yes, Ryan is correct, 55 watt halogens.

Yup, these are the exact same lights you have in that picture. $18 and change at Walmart.

All the HF ones I have seen are bigger than I was looking for. They didn't have any as small as these, but they do have some very low priced lights.

I think I'll add one more set under the center of my jeep. It would be nice to see what i am directly over.
