like what, a drill? a piece of straw?

typically an exhaust leak is accompanied by a rhythmic POP POP POP, not a hiss

Think about this

When you breathe in through a straw, it goes hiss.
When you fart, it goes POP POP POP. Sometimes fast, which would be the high pitched ones, sometimes just like that, sometimes just one pop.
If you hiss when you fart you have problems.
Such is the exhaust on your KJ

Dude... That has to be the best damn explanation and example i ever heard. Mechanics can't even put it that well...

And yep TBJ is right, HISS means suction... AKA Intake or vacuum related.

ok well i just became a member so can you help me with loading a video on there. really new to this.

Have you ever uploading pictures and posted them on a forum? You can use photobucket.com to upload pictures and videos. Uploading a video is very similar to posting a picture.

Unless he can isolate where the hiss is coming from, I don't think a picture or video is going to help much.

Ha, If you hiss when you fart you have problems? Huh? Apparently you don't listen to the Howard Stern show, AT ALL. No, you don't have a problem if you hiss when you fart, who told you that? PLUS, you have also NEVER heard any of my three boys, when they want to pass a hisser, or the dog for that matter. That is so unscientifically stated... Anyhow:

Ever hear an exhaust with a clogged Catalytic Converter? Ever hear them HISS on by? That is due to the pressure build up in the cat, which buffers the exhaust output, and it HISSES out the through, or through weak points in the cat, or before it. You can hear the engine noise as it should be, while the continuous "SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS" sound is heard as it rides on by. So, no, if there is a "SSSSSSSS" AFTER the motor, it would be a clogged cat. I have heard this (as Commandant Eric Lassard would say) many, Many, MANY times...

Based on the fact you said it goes away on blipping the gas, it's a vacuum leak. Vacuum drops when the throttle is open. Geez, doesn't anyone remember vacuum operated wipers?

What are these vacuum operated wipers you are talking of? ;) I am looking forward to seeing his vid. This hissing noise can be just about anything at this point and until I hear it and can kinda see around in the engine bay I'm calling it a snake.

Check the Cats. If they are clogged then the backpressure the clog is causing is forcing the exhaust out a leak somewhere. More then likely at the header joint. Use a smoke machine to check for moving air.

For the exhaust here you go for what needs to happen. This is for an 03 so it may be slightly different for you.

If you need a smoke machine to find a vacuum or exhaust leak, you have no business working on cars.
This problem will be solved with map gas or a can of ether. This is not an exhaust issue.

using propane to find a vacuum leak is lots of fun. Did it last year in an Automotive Technology lab for my AS degree. "Inject" propane around various lines/seals until you find the spot that affects the idle. Really easy to stall engines out using propane also.

As far as exhaust leak, nothing more is needed than a junky shop rag and a friend with at least 1 hand.
