I remember someone back a few years ago who would pull their skids and extra things off all the time to save someweight for better mileage. The time and effort that it takes to do it is not worth it at all.

as stated above the right foot more than anything controls that. Until I went to 265-75s I still pulled 21 on the average on the highway and thats with heavy skids, ARB, rockrails Kilby gas tank skid, ton of tools etc I carry all the time.

I have had mine off to install the gas tank skid and then back on as it goes over the skid. That said, I didn't weigh it. But it's not heavy enough to affect fuel economy.

But I can tell you this about weight in/on the jeep. I have at least 200+ pounds of crap in the back of mine and I had to remove it all to go pick up a set of rock rails and with it all emptied out I noticed NO difference in fuel economy on the highway.....none.

It's a jeep. It is heavy (4,200lbs+) and as areodynamic as a brick. It has low end torque which in itself is not fuel efficient. But it will take you places.....and back. Enjoy it's capabilities.

Control your right foot = good.......removing the hitch = not so much.

Yep, driving style affects gas mileage more than anything, thats true with any vehicle. In my wife's PT i can get about 26-28 mpg, she gets in and lead foots it and gets 22.

If you have skids, front and rear hitches, steel rims, rocker rails, big sub in the back maybe THEN you would notice a difference if you removed everything. I know I figured it all up one time and if I removed everything it was like 350-400lbs which isnt a whole lot if you think about it. Thats only three or so girls unless your into the hefty ones. :D

ThunderbirdJunkie's KJ weighs about 4800 lb with him in it. He gets 16 city/21 hwy.

This is also uncorrected for the bigger tires. Never have gotten around to getting that reset.

man you guys dont know what poor mpgs looks like
try 12-13 highway ,trying to get good milage
this is what I get in my '09 F250 ,granted it weighs in at close to 9,000#
and that is from a scale
or my TJ weighing in at about 4200#
going 60-65 I may be able to get 16-17 highway but lets face it 65 is SLOW
so I go 70+ a little ,which is around 65 on the speedo, and may see 15
The KJ going the same 70+ can easily get 20

oh and for the record
when the 250 was new(er) with nothing in it it still only got 14 highway

Is the F250 the 5.4 gasser or the Powerstroke (whose displacement escapes me at the time)...
