Is the pinion reset really worth the money. The jeep dealership next to me said it can be done for 131$. What are you really getting out of this?

A pinion reset does correct the speedo, but that is just 1 of the things it corrects. The biggest is the transmission shift points, just by doing the reset it feels almost like you geared lower since now the transmission now shifts correctly, plus this relieves alot of stress off the transmission also which will make it last longer. Before adding the bigger tires your trans uses 3 speed sensors,2 mounted on the trans and the rear diff sensor,to determine shift points(along with other sensors) and as soon as you put on larger tires your TCM goes screwy for awhile and adding stress on the trans from incorrect shifting.Yes after some time the TCM will "learn" the new pateern but when compared to it's defualt settings it is making the trans shift werid and wrong which leads to early trans failure.waste of time
not to mention the money
all it does is make the speedo correct
big effing deal
I have a GPS it tells me that my speedo is off by X %
great it is 5 mph off at 60 ,going 65 when it says 60 problem solved
best part is in an hour I go 65 miles but the odometer shows 60
figure it has been that way for the past 35K so I really put over 38K on it
factor that in and it is past the 7/70 when I got my CV shaft replaced under warranty
good thing I do not worry about the little things
