You might want to reconsider your decision after seing them prices ...
2400$ to 3000$ for a tent is a little too expensive ... you can have a small sized 5th wheel weighing 3000lbs behind your jeep for 5000$ and you get more space and kitchen stuff, etc. Unless you really go offroading only ...

No. He// no. I'd roll out of it. I'll stick to sleeping on the ground in a first class tent.

One of the guys over on LOST had the cold weather one - I think it was 'Maggiolina Extreme' - he really liked it.
he was from Alaska and felt like the extra height helped with the bears
(his dog stayed in the Jeep - so it barked when one came close anyway)

But seriously, yeah, when you can get an excellent quality Wenger 3 man dome tent (which will actually sleep 4 if you don't mind bein' cozy) from Costco for $49, it's really hard to justify an extra $2351- $2951 just to sleep on top of your jeep.

An instant up tent like that mounted to a cheap 4x8 utility trailer frame from Tractor Supply Co would be neat if the tent wasn't that expensive...

I was thinking about taking a 4x8 frame, about $300, and building one of those little tear drop sleepers. Like the little guy campers...

I was looking at an old price list for 2005 was $1600. They are pretty expensive now. But they are more than a tent. I look at it as a combo tent trailer jeep. It has a hard top which is nice in a downpour and it is off the ground which is also nicer than sleeping on wet and uneven ground. 30 sec to setup. It comes with all your bedding, mattress and pillows. everthing stays up there and you can also store other stuff in it. still, it is a lot of money.

Since your from QC you might want to check out the Canadian website. It's $2499 CAN for the small.

I saw one of those old land cruisers with a Maggiolina Extreme forest on it last Sunday. That thing was decked out and painted all green.

They are neat looking, but nice used a pop-up camper is cheaper. I know a chick that got one for $500.00, and it was NICE 5 years ago... It has a small propane stove, some cupboards... You're off the ground there too.

That is by far the strangest idea I've ever seen...not good for mountaintops during lightning storms I would imagine! I also don't know that I'd trust laying on the roof of my car, even with supports--I'd find a way to dent it, I'm sure.

Not worth the money as far as I am concerned.
For that kind of money you can get a good used tent trailer.
Then spend some cash re-doing the suspension so it can go off road.
And not have to worry about breaking your neck going down a ladder after more than a few Barley pops!
As far as bears, snakes, and unwanted two legged garbage...
Thats where the pump action shot gun comes in to play.

I guess I like strange ideas. :D The stock roof supports hold me just fine when I stand on my roof basket to take pics. The stock roof supports should work but it would be better to use some of RL's roof supports, especially if the roof tent weighs more than 150ibs. 150ibs rating is for traveling weight. When you are stationary it can hold more.
