I’ve done a search and could not find what I was looking for, there’s a lot of discussion about using and programming the fob to unlock the doors. What I am wondering is why is it every time I get to my destination I have to unlock the back doors in order for my passengers to get out. In my dodge if I open my door first it automatically unlocks all the other doors. Does the jeep liberty (2003) have that feature?

My 04 LTD does that, it unlocks all doors. If you had EVIC it would have been so easy since the option is there. Without evic, I am sure there is a trick, but how....

We have what's called Driver door priority.

1st unlock press, just the driver door unlocks.
2nd unlock press, all other doors unlock.

That's they way they come programmed

Inside though, when I use the unlock button on the door, ALL doors unlock. In my Vibe, when I turn the ignition off, all the doors unlock; wonder if these can be programmed to do that?

Also, the rear door/flip up glass doesn't unlock if the key is in the ignition, or even partially in.

Why is it such a big deal? Is it really that much of a hassle? Have we really gotten so lazy and irritable in this country, that something like this is a NAG?

No it does not. You must either hit the unlock switch on the door or the key fob & unlock all the doors, OR the back seat passenger must raise the lock plunger in order to open his/her door individually. The front doors both open by tugging the handle whether the lock is engaged or not but they won't unlock any other doors.

Powerslave: I'm not trying to be a NAG as you put it; I have no little kids in the backseat to worry about, however, it does become irritating when I have stuff in the backseat and I have to hit the unlock button to open the damn back doors. If the manufactures are going to pre program vehicles to lock at 15mph then they should program the vehicle to unlock when the vehicle is turned off just common sense to me.

Chud, Hyedipin, and Twack,: Thanks for all your input!

It can be programmed to unlock all of the doors with one push on the fob. It's in the owner's manual. The horn chirp can also be turned off.

Moparman: I understand about unlocking with the fob from the outside, my question pertains to once I reach my destination I have to manually unlock the back doors in order for my passengers to get out or they have to lift up the lock. My truck (Dodge Ram quad cab) the back doors unlock as soon as I open the drivers door.

I understand now. That is not a feature my 06 has.

I think some of you got it wrong.
1) He is not talking about FOB unlock (first or second press, which is an option you can select)
2) He is not talking about the button on the door to unlock all doors

What he is talking about it, when all 4 doors are locked (since KJ locks them when you hit 20mph) after you stop and open drivers door, all other doors unlock. For the driver door, you don't need to flick the button or pull the door lock to unlock, it unlocks when you pull the door handle switch and open the door. It also unlocks all other doors at the same time, basically when you open your door, everyone else can get out without touching the locks...

Yes, it is a feature on my KJ, and I am sure it is on everyone else's, if they claim not having it then its just not activated/or turned off somehow.

Since buying my 04 Liberty one of my pet peeves was that when exiting the Libby none of the doors would automatically unlock. I read through the owner's manual but had no success with the whole Fob method and when I asked my dealership to make the changes they said it couldn't be done

Recently I installed an EVIC and while running through the possible programming features discovered that I could perfect10.gif

So what I'll suggest is that you find an EVIC for your 03 Libby, that or borrow one from another Libby owner :) If you know what you're doing you can hardwire an EVIC directly into the OBD port and program your door locks.

Funny you say that about the fob, I programmed mine to cut the horn beep on the locking push, but I couldn't get a friends to program at all.

I have a 08 Liberty without the EVIC. I followed the steps in the manual and am able to get the car to unlock when one of the front doors is opened. not sure if it will work on your model. From my manual:

1 Close all doors and place the key in the ignition.

2. Cycle the ignition switch between LOCK and ON and then back to LOCK 4 times ending up in the LOCK position.

3 Depress the power door unlock switch to unlock the

4. A single chime will indicate the completion of the programming.

5. Repeat these steps if you want to return this feature to its previous setting.

I too am annoyed with the need to manually unlock the doors when I put my vehicle in and need to access the rear seats, but I have often thought of this reason. Saftey. Think of how far to often thefts or worse happen in mall parking lots or wherever. Everytime I see someone open their mini van sliding doors with the touch of a button and both sides open up, I think of how unsafe that is for the children on the opposite side of the parent. I know I might be looking too deep into it, but it's harder for someone to do something so deviant if they can't get in. I know if someone wants to do something they will try anyway, but that second you have to get out and stand next to the door and press your fob to unlock it might be the deterant that saves you a problem. Again, I look too deeply into things but if it takes me an extra 2 seconds to get into the rest of my car and my kid of my belongings are safe for it... so be it. It still annoys me when I am in a hurry, but there are far worse things in life to get upset about. Like how I don't have a decent place that delivers hot wings near me, now that is an outrage!

Tweed: I tried your programming tip, however, all that did was reprogram my fob to where I have to click unlock two times to unlock all doors. I'm thinking it cannot be done, oh well it was worth the Q&A session. Thanks.

So opening your driver door still doesn't unlock all other doors after driving around?
