let me say that I'm running stock speakers with an aftermarket head unit, a sony BTX-3700U to be exact..
I noticed alot better sound overall, lows mid's and highs. then I added two Rockford Fosgate P2's in a ported box, and now my stock speakers just can't keep up lol..
I can turn the high pass filter for the doors to around 80-120Hz, and I can crank the piss out of it.. but then I have this huge gap in sound.. I got my lows (alot of it), got my highs which are a bit muddy at high volume (what can you expect from stock paper speakers), got my vocals ect, and then the gap.. no input as far as bass notes go from the doors.
I know door speakers aren't suppose to act as subwoofers and cause coins to bounce around in your cup holder, but hearing some low output from them really fills that gap that I seem to get when I turn the HPF on.
at lower volumes without the HPF, I get some pretty incredible sound staging with stock speakers, but right about volume level 32-35 (1 - 50) they start takin a shit, and if I wanna go louder, I need the HPF.
I usually only turn it up really loud to let the subs sing, which in turn distorts my vision, makes my throat itch, and kinda gets difficult to breathe lol.. I need to find a door speaker that can keep up with my subs. I have a 4 channel 600w amp I can power em with.
what would you folks recommend? I was lookin at alpine SPS-600 or something earlier on crutchfield, not sure though.. almost bought a set of crap-ass speakers from wal-mart.. which I know would be a mistake.
